AMD has just released the latest version of their graphics driver, version 23.2.1, and it’s been a long time coming. It’s been over two months since the last driver update for the AMD Radeon 6000 series, but this one is worth the wait.
The new drivers are specifically designed to boost gaming performance and include support for both desktop Radeon 6000 and mobile Radeon 6000M and 5000M GPUs. AMD claims that their “Finewine” technology has been hard at work, and it shows.
They boast an impressive 10% performance increase across numerous games over the course of the year, and this latest driver takes it even further.
In comparison to the previous driver from November 2022, the 23.2.1 driver release provides additional optimizations that can make a real difference. AMD compared the performance of the Radeon RX 6950XT at 4K resolution in several popular games and the results are impressive.
For example, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered saw up to a 4% improvement, while F1 2022 saw a whopping 19% boost in performance.
While these comparisons were made using the flagship RDNA2 GPU, AMD claims that optimizations can be expected across all RDNA2 GPUs from the 6400 to 6900 series. They even provided a chart that shows an increase in performance of 6% to 20% compared to the launch driver from 2021 for all popular RX 6000 models.
AMD is also adding new features to the Adrenalin Software for Radeon RX 6000 series, including streaming optimizations for H.265 and H.264 codecs, and updates to AMD Link software. Plus, they remind users that OBS streaming software now supports AV1 encoding with Radeon 7900 series.
AMD encourages you to report any bugs which you may encounter to their software team. They have given examples of bugs that were fixed thanks to community support, so your feedback is crucial in improving their products.
Patch notes:
- Forspoken now benefits from an up to 7% performance boost at 4k resolution when using the latest AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 23.2.1 on the Radeon RX 6950XT GPU, compared to the previous software driver version 22.11.2 RS-524.
- Dead Space now utilizes the IREE compiler with an MLIR interface on Vulkan, providing enhanced performance and efficiency.
- Additional Vulkan extensions have been added, providing more advanced graphics features.
- The Radeon RX 6000 Series GPUs now offer support for new streaming capabilities, such as a pre-filter toggle, pre-analysis feature, and CAML technology.
