The MCU is re-arranging the Avengers after the Infinity Saga’s end. The MCU fandom saw one of these changes in the Disney+ series, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, where Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson becomes the new Captain America.
We’ve already seen him in action as Captain America, but we expect to see Sam against an even more formidable opponents in his solo film, Captain America: New World Order. The film, due on May 3, 2024, will be Mackie’s first solo film since his debut in the MCU and also his first as Captain America.
The film is still in the pre-production phase, but we already have some confirmed appearances. Isaiah Bradley and Joaquin Torres are set to return, and Samuel Sterns, a.k.a The Leader, will also make his comeback.
In an interview with Collider, Nate Moore teased Sam Wilson going against General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross being played by Harrison Ford.
The MCU producer revealed this critical detail from the upcoming film while also reminding fans that it was Thunderbolt Ross who threw Sam in prison in Captain America: Civil War, commenting that the clash between them will be “really fun.”
Harrison Ford is taking on the role of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross and seeing Sam Wilson and Thunderbolt Ross, which, if you remember, actually threw him in prison at the end of Civil War because he violated the Sokovia Accords. There will be some natural sparks there, which I think will be really fun.
But Ross’ feature in previous MCU films has not been as prominent, so why is his appearance in Captain America: New World Order so important?
Samuel Sterns first appearance as The Leader in The Incredible Hulk, was also Ross’ first appearance in the MCU. They never met in that film but could unite against Sam in Captain America 4. And you know what’s the “red” cherry on top?
In the comics, Thunderbolt Ross becomes Red Hulk to match the strength of Hulk and defeat him. So, Sam Wilson’s first solo stint as Captain America may have him up against not one but two Hulks!
If that’s not exciting enough for you, what is? Captain America: New World Order is set to start filming in 2023 and releases theatrically on May 3, 2024.
