Hogwarts Legacy has gamers and non-gamers stupefied. The open-world action role-playing game (RPG) is a nostalgic trip for many who have grown up with the Harry Potter series.
But while the historical halls and walls of Hogwarts make you feel right at home, some players are wondering whether they can expect any familiar faces in the game. Will we get to see Harry Potter in Hogwarts Legacy?
Players cannot meet Harry Potter in Hogwarts Legacy because Potter was born in 1980, while the game is set in 1890. Most of the core Harry Potter cast are either too young to be at Hogwarts or have not yet been born in the time that Hogwarts Legacy takes place.
The game charts a new territory with new characters and little to no mention of the old ones. There are however a few fan favorites who make it into Hogwarts Legacy. Read on to know which ones you can expect to meet.
Can you meet Dumbledore in Hogwarts Legacy?
Attending classes at our favorite school of witchcraft and wizardry, getting sorted into a house, casting spells, battling monsters, sealing the fate of Hogwarts’ magical future … Hogwarts Legacy is a dream for Potterheads.
However, if you’re looking forward to interacting with characters like Dumbledore, you’re in for some disappointment.
Albus Dumbledore was born in 1881, which means he would be merely 9 years of age of during the Hogwarts Legacy game.
Hogwarts is a secondary boarding school where children begin their magical education from the age of 11. This means Hogwarts Legacy players won’t be able to meet Dumbledore – at least in Hogwarts.
There is a tiny possibility that you might bump into 9-year-old Dumbledore somewhere outside the school’s premises. But I’d say this is highly unlikely, because, as fans would know, Dumbledore’s early life was fraught with tragedy surrounding his sister, Ariana.
The Dumbledores moved from Mould-on-the-Wold to Godric’s Hollow sometime after Albus was born. So, unless player characters can visit to Godric’s Hollow, I don’t see how any contact with either of the Dumbledores is possible.
Although, as some players have pointed out, Albus’s father, Percival, was sent to Azkaban for attacking Muggles; in Hogwarts Legacy, if you’re a Hufflepuff student, you can go to Azkaban during one of the quests.
But the visit is brief and specific to the side mission, so if you’re expecting a glimpse of Percival Dumbledore being kissed by Dementors, don’t hold your breath.
Can you meet any familiar Harry Potter characters in Hogwarts Legacy?
Players will not meet Harry, Ron, Hermione, Tom Riddle/Voldemort, Dumbledore, Hagrid and the rest of the main Harry Potter series characters in the game.
There is, however, a small but notable number of characters seen or mentioned in the original franchise that appear in Hogwarts Legacy.
Hogwarts Legacy is published under Warner Bros’s Portkey Games, which are cemented in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World.
This means that even though Hogwarts Legacy is set in a period before Rowling’s main Harry Potter stories, multiple ghosts, fantastic beasts, creatures, professors, and other wizards from the Harry Potter series make an appearance in the game.
Beloved characters like Nearly Headless Nick, the Fat Lady, and Professor Binns make a comeback in Hogwarts Legacy.
Sirius’s great-great-grandfather, Phineas Nigellus Black stars as the Hogwarts Headmaster.
Many ancestors of the Weasley family like Matilda, Garreth and Hector Weasley also feature in Hogwarts Legacy.
As for non-human members of the Harry Potter series, you’ll get to see the poltergeist, Peeves, hippogriffs, thestrals, nifflers, kneazles, dragons, trolls, goblins, house-elves and more.
