Marc may be one step closer to finding Ammit’s tomb before Harrow gets to it and resurrects her, but it all came at a cost.
Moon Knight’s Episode 3 had us gliding through Egypt’s market streets, the Great Pyramid of Giza and a private collection of artifacts, sprinkling in the fact that there might be a third Moon Knight personality at large.
But at the end of this thrilling episode, Khonshu had to give up his “freedom” in order to help Steven (who had taken control) find the coordinates to Ammit’s tomb.
Now that Khonshu is sealed off and trapped in stone, does this mean Marc/Steven won’t be able to tap into their powers?
Marc harnesses many superpowers like super-strength, self-healing, and agility by wearing the Moon Knight/Mr. Knight “suits” bestowed by Khonshu.
If Khonshu is trapped, it may mean that Marc does not have access to any of these powers or the suits.
Again, the show has left us in the dark on several fronts. For example, did Marc have any powers of his own or was he only able to use Khonshu’s powers when he put on the Moon Knight suit?
In the comics, Marc was also able to use weapons/objects that contained a small dose of Khonshu’s powers in them. So in Ep 4, will he stumble upon something similar that will aid him during the god’s absence?
While we try to figure that one out, it’s also worth pondering upon what Khonshu’s imprisonment means.
When the other Egyptian gods trapped him in stone, he indicated that his connection with Marc/Steven would be severed and hence ordered Steven to get Marc to break him out of his imprisonment.
Without this connection, it’s unlikely that Marc will have any of his Moon Knight powers and may have to depend on his mercenary skills and Steven’s vast store of knowledge to outsmart their enemies.
As seen in the previous episodes, Marc is pretty strong on his own even if he has to bleed out like a normal mortal. So, I’m sure he’ll be able to hold his ground till he rescues Khonshu.
But to play the devil’s advocate, Khonshu being sealed off is also a great opportunity for Marc to simply walk away. After all, the only reason he was doing this mysterious “last task” was so that Khonshu would leave him and Layla alone.
Sadly, now he has to also deal with the naively righteous Steven who won’t let them walk away knowing that unleashing Ammit on the world would not fare decently on their conscience.
Finding Ammit’s tomb, stopping Harrow’s fanatic plans, and now rescuing his pigeon-headed god… Marc’s to-do list is sure getting long. I can’t wait to see where this goes!
