The author of the Percy Jackson series, Rick Riordan responded to questions by fans regarding Camp Half-Blood merchandise.
Riordan’s best-selling book series follows Percy Jackson, the demigod son of Greek God Poseidon, as he embarks on various adventures with his friends at Camp Half-Blood. The first two books in the series were first adapted into two feature films by 20th Century Fox. However, they were immensely disliked by critics and fans alike.
First announced back in 2020, Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a long-awaited Disney+ adaptation of Riordan’s best-selling fantasy books. The author himself has been heavily involved in the development and production of the show, which promises to be a much more faithful live-action adaptation of the young adult series.
The series stars Walker Scobell as the titular demigod, Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, and Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood, among others. The first teaser for the series was unveiled at the recent D23 Expo.
The first look revealed the signature orange t-shirts worn by campers at Camp Half-Blood. The t-shirts quickly became a major attraction for fans. Many wondered if there was a way for them to get hold of some official Percy Jackson merchandise.
After receiving several questions about the new Camp Half-Blood tees, Rick Riordan took to his website to address fans’ questions. The YA author called the t-shirt design “absolute fire”, crediting the show’s art department and costume designers for it.
Check out what Riordan had to say:
Another question is about the new generation design for the Camp Half-Blood shirts, which are absolute fire, thanks to our art department and costume designers. I imagine there will be many ways to score your own T-shirt, and Disney is working on that right now, so stay tuned.
Another common question asked by most fans was pertaining to an unusual, unique symbol on the cabins in Camp Half-Blood that we saw in the teaser. Riordan explained that the symbols were neither in Greek nor in any other language. Fans will eventually discover the symbol’s significance later on.
It is a good sign that the Percy Jackson teaser has left fans with plenty to speculate about and eager to see more. Moreover, fans are eager to get their hands on their own Camp Half-Blood t-shirts as soon as possible.
The new generation t-shirts are slightly different from the original visual depiction in the books. The show’s design features a circular pattern around a central black Pegasus. Though it is not clear when fans will be able to get hold of their own t-shirts, it could happen soon, going by Riordan’s statement.
Let us hope we can get our own Camp Half-Blood t-shirts long before the series premieres on Disney+ in 2024.
