1. Episode 13 Title & Release Date

Episode 13 of the Bungou to Alchemist: Shinpan no Haguruma anime, titled “Cogwheels Part 2,” will be released on Friday, August 7, 2020.  

In the next episode, Taint Akutagawa goes on a rampage killing the authors to save Akutagawa Ryunosuke. Dazai is the only hope to stop him!

No, episode 13 of the Bungou to Alchemist: Shinpan no Haguruma anime will be released as per its schedule; thus, no such delay is announced.

2. Episode 13 Preview & Speculation

The preview for the final Episode 13 was not shown but its title was revealed to be “Cogwheels Part 2.”

In the Literary Gourmet at the end Oda Saku and others celebrate Dazai’s birthday and give him a strawberry cake with natto and lettuce which makes Dazai question what kind of cake was that, along with a chocolate plate engraved as “Akutagawa prize” which he desired.

Still, since they can’t give him the original thing, his friends came up with this plan to mess with Dazai!

Akutagawa listens in on this conversation from the door, standing with the same set up with a cupcake and ribbon to mess with Dazai.

In the next episode, we will see the Taint Akutagawa go on a rampage destroying literature.

Dazai will prepare with the acting director to save the renowned literary works, who will stop whom first?

On the other hand, real Akutagawa lay unconscious in the bed and could wake up, the only one who can put an end to Taint Akutagawa’s rampage!

3. Recap of Episode 12

I. Story of Akutagawa Ryunosuke

Episode 12, titled “Cogwheels Part 1,” begins with the Taint Akutagawa remembering the memories of real-life and realizing that he was indeed Akutagawa Ryunosuke, born from the suffering of the original Akutagawa.

A friend who would accept the imperfections and love Akutagawa for who he was.

As the two Akutagawa talk to each other, the Taint in the memories always tried to show that Akutagawa was a kind person who tried his best to fulfill the expectations people had for him, but this left him feeling empty and a prisoner to literature.

In the end, Akutagawa committed suicide leaving behind a draft of his last novel, “A Dialogue in the Darkness.”

At that moment, the other felt immense pain and hatred for literature that took his only friend and master who created him, and so they appeared the Taints.

II. Tainted Thoughts

Akutagawa finds himself in a different realm; the taints introduce themselves to him and reveal the reason for their existence.

They tell him to make his choice; in exchange for consuming Akutagawa, they would grant his wish.

His being a creature of imagination knows that he would disappear soon.

He hangs on to the last hope the taints provided him and becomes determined to destroy Akutagawa Ryunosuke’s books from the past and the future!

The books that became the reason for his beloved friend’s misery.

The taints find him interested in destroying the books to change the fate of the author, they felt it would be a shame to consume him, so they give Akutagawa a part of their power to destroy the books.

III. Dazai left alone

With his newfound knowledge and power from the taints, Akutagawa plans to infiltrate the Library and spread the Taint from inside.

It would also help him eliminate the authors if he dwelled in the books with them and ended their lives there.

But Akutagawa lost his memories in searching and entering the Library and fought with the authors to save the books as shown in the anime.

Finally, regaining his memories, Akutagawa unleashes the Taints and begins to slaughter the authors present at the scene.

As the last one standing, Dazai throws away his weapon and tries to reason with the Taint Akutagawa, only to get attacked, but Kikuchi sacrifices himself to save Dazai after the Taint leaves.

Kikuchi requests Dazai to protect literature and Ryu’s books and then disappears. 

Taint Akutagawa barges in the Library and sets it on fire, with nowhere to escape the remaining authors dive into “Gears” to use their weapons.

But to no avail as Akutagawa roots, the authors out in kills them in the book. Dazai stumbles in the Library and falls unconscious at the acting director’s foot.

Initially, the Japanese literature themed DMM online game known as Bungou to Alchemist, shortly known as BunAru. Bungou to Alchemist was launched on November 1, 2016, by DMM GAMES as a browser game, expanding to mobile platforms the following year on June 14.

Through the years, the franchise has expanded into novels, stage plays, and even anime.

The protagonist is taken to a world where they can meet renowned Japanese writers of the past.

Their task is to delve into tainted books to purify them, with parties composed of writers to fight the Taints, who have corrupted the books.

To gain writers, they must transmigrate them by delving into ensouled books or meeting them while battling Taints in tainted books.
