Bungo Stray Dogs Season 4 Ep 4: Release Date, Speculation, Discussion

Fukuzawa and Ranpo confront the real perpetrators in episode 3 of Bungo Stray Dogs Season 4, titled “The Secret Founding of the Detective Agency”.

Officer Mitamura kidnaps Ranpo for his ability, mistaking him for a gifted, to make him join their organization named V. However, Ranpo has been aware of their whole plan and has already left clues for Fukuzawa to find him.

With the help of Ranpo’s clues and Sakunosuke, Fukuzawa arrives just in time to save Ranpo. In order to protect Ranpo in the future, Fukuzawa asks for help from Natsume.

Episode 4 Speculation

Episode 4 is titled “A Perfect Murder and Murderer (Part 1)”. The secrets behind the founding of The Armed Detective Agency have been revealed. The next episode will show the present time. Judging from the title, it is safe to assume that it will be another case brought to the agency’s attention, and Ranpo will probably be the person to solve it.

The next episode will show the beloved cast including Atsushi, Dazai, Kunikida, and others from the agency. Since the series last ended with the Dead Apple arc and how we now know that Fyodor was behind the theatre murder, he will probably be an important antagonist again.

Recap of Episode 3

Ranpo confronts Officer Mitamura, the suspicious police officer, and asks him where he is really taking him. However, first, Ranpo shows off his ability and deduces that the suspicious gentleman was abducted by Mitamura, and he and whomever he works with were behind the whole elaborate set-up at the theatre.

Mitamura is thrilled and comes to believe that Ranpo really is gifted.

Fukuzawa worries about Ranpo after hearing about the murder and how Ranpo already told him that there was a bigger picture to the whole thing. He goes outside and tries to think of what to do when he notices his own business card stuck beneath the theatre board that Ranpo knocked off earlier while leaving. 

Fukuzawa takes the card and sees that Ranpo has written that the perpetrator is Mitamura and also to find the cane.

Remembering where the suspicious gentleman with the cane, who was Natsume Soseki, was last seen, Fukuzawa goes to the back of the stage and finds the cane near the back curtains. He opens the cane and sees a chip, and immediately calls someone.

Meanwhile, Mitamura has brought Ranpo to an abandoned building. Mitamura reveals that since their original target, Natsume, escaped, his higher-ups would be furious, and thus, he needs Ranpo’s help. He goes on a charade of how their organization’s motives are to rid the world of evil but Ranpo is unimpressed.

Fukuzawa goes to Sakunosuke, now held in a cell, for help. He tells him that the chip is only held by high-priority gifted who are targeted by criminal organizations to communicate with the protection agency.

He asks him if he has been recently hired by someone from an organization called “V”. Sakunosuke expresses his disapproval, saying that he hates V since even as an assassin, he kills for a reason, but for V, killing is like a ritual.

Fukuzawa asks Sakunosuke if he knows of any of their hideouts. Sakunosuke is uncooperative at first but is shocked when he hears Fukuzawa saying that he will testify for his innocence in return since he pegged him as someone who always puts justice first. He tells him he is a little envious of a subordinate for whom he is going to such lengths for.

Sakunosuke gives Fukuzawa the information he needs. However, in return, he tells him that he can get himself out whenever he wants, and so he instead wants curry rice.

While trying to get Ranpo to cooperate, Mitamura runs out of patience because of his annoying behavior and points his gun at him. At that point, Fukuzawa bursts in and takes him and all the guards out.

Ranpo starts praising himself for his perfect calculations but Fukuzawa gets angry and tells him to stop wagering his life on his gambles. Ranpo starts crying and hugs Fukuzawa, apologizing to him.

Fukuzawa and Ranpo go to Natsume, and Fukuzawa asks for Natsume’s help to obtain a Gifted Business Permit, so he can help Ranpo since he has started gaining a reputation as a gifted detective. Natsume remarks it won’t be an easy path but if it’s them, they can do it.
