Episode 3 Speculation
Episode 3 is titled “Secrets of the founding of The Detective Agency”. Ranpo has been kidnapped by the police officer, probably on the suspicious man’s orders. The episode will reveal the man’s intentions. It’s a good possibility that Ranpo knew about it all and willingly went with him as he told Fukuzawa that it will take him a while to come back.
The suspicious man with the cane is Natsume-sensei, so we will see the birth of The Detective Agency and how he assigns Fukuzawa as its head. He is considered to be Fukuzawa’s and Mori’s mentor in the present, so we may even get to see Mori next.

Recap of Episode 2
Fukuzawa and Ranpo watch the play, The Day is a Dream, The Night is Real, in the theatre. Fukuzawa notices someone suspicious in the audience. Ranpo gets annoyed that the people are watching the play without complaining when the person behind the murder in the story can easily be figured out. He starts saying that the world is filled with monsters whom he can’t understand
During intermission, Fukuzawa tells Ranpo that his deduction earlier was right and that he was indeed a famous assassin known as the Master of Swords. His motive was to bring peace, but he realized he had started waiting for the next kill, so he decided never to wield a sword. He tells Ranpo that only he has ever known the truth about his past and is gifted.
Fukuzawa further tells Ranpo that his ability to be able to see the truth is the reason he sees the people around him as monsters, but in truth, they are just stupid idiots, and it’s not his fault.
He tells him that he will help him to control his ability and gives him a “special” pair of glasses. He lies that it will activate his ability only when he is wearing them and he will be normal when he is not.
Ranpo is skeptical, but Fukuzawa uses his “voice” to convince him, and he gains back his self–confidence. His world is filled with color as he wears the glasses. He tells Fukuzawa that the murderer will follow through with his plan and to watch the audience while he goes prepare everything.
During the second act, Murakami is shot during his monologue, and Fukuzawa notices that there is no murder weapon. The audience is confused, and Fukuzawa remembers Ranpo’s words, and declares that no one will leave the theatre
While investigating, Fukuzawa hears from the police that one of the audience members has vanished. A police officer tells him that it was the same person with the cane that Fukuzawa found suspicious earlier.
Fukuzawa starts looking for Ranpo out of concern. The theatre manager, Egawa, tells him that Ranpo left her a message saying there are two murderers. He told her part of the truth and asked Fukuzawa to sit with everyone to see him reveal everything.
Ranpo appears on the stage to tell everyone the truth. He reveals that the victim and attacker have swapped seats, and the person that the police found suspicious was the victim. Egawa helps him behind the scenes, and he shows the man tied behind a curtain. He reveals that Murakami is actually alive, and he wakes up.
Murakami faces Ranpo, and he tells how Murakami pulled off everything and that the stagewright was his accomplice. Murakami is impressed and tells him that he did it to play a “real” death for the audience. Ranpo brings his attention to the audience’s faces. Looking at their horrified expression, Murakami realizes that he was doing all this for himself, not for them.
Ranpo and Fukuzawa meet, and Ranpo goes on about the glasses. The police officer from earlier asks Ranpo to come to the station to explain the case. Ranpo is delighted and proudly calls himself a detective, which the officer gets excited about too. Fukuzawa tries to explain the truth but is unable to due to Ranpo’s enthusiasm.
While Ranpo leaves, Fukuzawa goes and asks Murakami who the unconscious man was. He tells him that he was the other aim of their project that was planned by the stagewright, Kurahashi. To Fukuzawa’s shock, Murakami tells him that capturing Ranpo was one of his objectives.
At that point, a staff member runs up to Fukuzawa and tells him that the stagewright has been murdered in his locked room. Fukuzawa is confused.
In the car, Ranpo asks the officer how long it will take to reach. He just smiles and says, “soon”.
