Yosano’s past and connection to Mori are revealed in episode 9 of Bungo Stray Dogs Season 4, titled “A Dream of Butterflies”. Refusing to join the Port mafia, Yosano heads out to meet Francis. Tanizaki and Kenji question her adamancy about working under Mori. So she starts telling them of fourteen years ago when she worked as a medic in the National unit during the Great War.
Yosano’s abilities were a boon to the army, but they soon became a curse as the army could not retreat due to constantly getting resurrected. A close friend, who gifted Yosano her butterfly hair ornament, hung herself, which finally pushed the little girl over the edge. Mori tries to exploit her abilities again, three years later, but Fukuzawa and Ranpo rescue her.

Episode 10 is titled “In Lament of my Wingless Body”. The questions regarding Fukuzawa and Mori’s connection are revealed, and it is now clear why they split. Yosano, Tanizaki, and Kenji are determined to meet Francis and restore the agency in any way they can
The three will meet Francis and will be united with Atsushi and Kyouka. It seems that the Port Mafia will also probably follow them. So far, it doesn’t seem that Francis will betray them since he cares about his people and wants Yosano’s abilities to heal Margaret. However, we will see his real intentions in the next episode.

Recap of Episode 9
Junichiro and Kenji catch up to Yosano, who is heading towards the place Francis mentioned. Junichirio asks Yosano about her connection to Mori and why she is reluctant to join the Port Mafia. She begins to tell them her story, about how Fukuzawa and Mori became enemies because of her, as they walk.
Fourteen Years ago, a then eleven-year-old Yosano was recruited by Mori to work as a medic in the army during the Great War. Everyone in their unit loved her and was thankful for her abilities. Once, after she healed everyone, one of the private officers gifted her the butterfly hair ornament and called her an “angel”. He mentions how Mori brought her into the unit to prove to the military brass that abilities change the concept of war.
Yosano starts wavering as everyone she healed kept on being sent back to the front to die again. The same officer assured her about the justness of her ability and tells her that he is keeping a tally of the times he had been saved by her on his pendant, with the kanji letter for “true”.
However, the situation worsens, and seeing all the officers lose their mental will makes her beg Mori to let them retreat. Mori refused, and no one was allowed to leave the battlefield.
Everyone who used to love Yosano in the army starts resenting her. When she was sitting in a daze, she heard the officer delivering a final voice message to her. When she reaches her, she witnesses he has already hung himself with the final words “You are too just”.
Yosano tells Junichiro and Kenji how that was her last thread. She was arrested for setting explosives in their own carrier and was kept in an isolation facility until Mori found her again three years later after the war ended.
Fukuzawa was disgusted with Mori for trying to drag down Yosano again, which led to the end of their alliance. While they were fighting, Yosano was secretly rescued by Ranpo. However, the past has been too big of a burden on her, and she tells Ranpo to let her die.
Ranpo gives her the butterfly hair ornament back, telling her how his ability to know everything makes him the most superior. Yosano asks him where she should go. Ranpo invites her to the Armed Detective agency, assuring her they want her kindness, not her ability.
In the present, Yosano declares she will save the Agency at any cost, and the three head out of the Port Mafia hideout.
