Episode 3 Recap
Miri wakes Rei up to have breakfast with him. Kazuki and Rei discuss leaving Miri with her mother, and Rei asks Kazuki if he is sure about his decision. Kazuki tells her he is since he is sure assassins don’t make good parents.
Kazuki apologizes to Kyutaro for botching their last job at the café and inquires about how it went. Kyutaro, who is still angry, tells him to mind his own business but hands over the information about Miri.
At a park, Kazuki and Rei go through the information while Miri plays. They both remember their bad childhoods. Rei gets Miri some sweet potatoes, and Kazuki goes away to get drinks.
Someone from the childhood agency comes and asks Miri if she is with someone and Rei says that he isn’t her guardian. Kazuki rushes towards them and tells him that he is her father, and they all go away.
After reaching home, Kazuki tucks Miri in for bed. However, not wanting to sleep alone, she goes in search of Rei and finds him asleep in his bathtub. Rei tries to explain that he sleeps there in case of an ambush but Miri innocently tells him not to be scared and smile.
They all drive to the address the next day and Rei once again asks Kazuki if he is sure about leaving Miri. Kazuki says yes but Rei tells him he is a terrible actor. Kazuki leaves them both in the car to gauge the situation first and finds that the address leads to a cheap bar and Miri’s mother Misaki, is a singer there.
Seeing a man in the bar during off hours, Misaki’s abusive boyfriend attacks Kazuki but he takes him out. He tries to inquire about her well-being but she slaps him and then tells him she will dress his wound.
Rei looks after Miri in a nearby park. While talking, Rei inquires Miri why she calls Kazuki “papa” and she tells him that a papa is someone who saves you when you are in trouble. Her words made him reminisce about his own harsh childhood during which his father, probably the leader of a gang, forced him to go through ruthless training to kill and fight. Busy with his thoughts, he loses Miri.
In the bar, Kazuki talks with Misaki and finds that she resents Miri for being born and destroying her dreams and refuses to take any kind of responsibility.
Kazuki tries to tell her that sacrificing is part of parenthood, but due to her own tough life, she tells him that he can’t speak when he hasn’t been a parent, which forces him to remember how he failed to protect his family. Disgusted by how she hates her own child, Kazuki leaves.
Rei finds Miri being questioned by some policemen and thinks of abandoning her. But when he hears her cries, he remembers her earlier words and decides to do better than his own father. He goes out and tells the policemen that he is her papa, and Miri happily rushes toward him and hugs him.
Kazuki finds Rei coming with Miri in his arms and teases him when Miri refers to him as papa. They take her home, this time as fathers. After eating dinner, Miri forces them both to sleep with her and Kazuki finds that Rei is actually sleeping peacefully for once.
