Why do I say that? Because other than having some impeccable animation, the series offers carefully fabricated stories that tell you so much in seven minutes. The well-written plot combined with the mesmerizing visuals will get you lost in another world.

Obviously, you’d wonder how the show managed to grab your attention and put you in a trance. So, the staff revealed some of the work that goes into making it.

The official YouTube channel of Pokemon has released two behind-the-scenes videos for their mini anime series, Pokemon Evolutions. It shows the hefty amount of effort that goes into each episode in sketchy-art form.

The first video is for the series’ first episode titled, ‘The Champion.’ The episode is from Pokemon Sword’s continuity and centers around Galar’s champion, Leon.

The video is a rough, comic-style animation of Leon’s battle and subsequent defeat at the hands of Eternatus during the Darkest Day. The champion reflects upon his failure while preparing to go against Victor, who eventually beat Eternatus.

Towards the end of the clip, we see the procedure of how the episode’s opening scene was planned and created.

The second behind-the-scenes video released is for the series’ episode 2, ‘The Eclipse.’ This episode comes from Pokemon Ultra Moon’s continuity with Lillie as the protagonist.

Episode 2’s BTS video also follows the same animation style as the previous one and starts with the opening scene’s working. It then shows the part where Lillie’s mother uses Nebby to open the Ultra Wormhole and battle the fearsome Pokemon Necrozma.

Lillie begged her mother to stop, but it was all in vain. She then sets out on a journey with Selene to summon the Legendary Pokemon Lunala, who can restore Nebby’s strength and save Lillie’s mother.

Instead of Lillie’s victory, the episode gets a bittersweet ending as Lunala (evolved Nebby) gets absorbed by Necrozma. Lillie and Selena get up again to fight Necrozma as the episode concludes.

While both the episodes don’t necessarily end on a happy note or in the protagonist’s dramatic victory, they impart many lessons. Like in the first, even after being hailed as a champion, Leon still tasted defeat but didn’t fret over it.

Similarly, Lillie used to be a scared little girl but gathered the courage to defend her mother from a formidable opponent.

That’s why Pokemon Evolutions is probably the best mini-series that the franchise has ever given us.
