You know I’m always rooting for couples that have great chemistry, and that’s why I love this bit of news. ABC’s “The Conners” was quickly renewed after its season 5 finale for season 6, and I hope to see one particular couple.
“Stranger Things” star Sean Astin joined “The Conners” late in season 5 as Tyler, Becky’s new love interest that landed out of nowhere while Jackie & Louise searched for “the one” elsewhere. The guest star and Lecy Goranson’s characters hit it off immediately, and their easy on-screen chemistry had viewers wondering if he’ll return next season.
Well, the show’s co-creator and showrunner, Bruce Helford, confirmed that they’re bringing Astin back as Tyler in season 6. In an interview with TVLine, the writer stated he’s “absolutely” sure about Tyler’s return and wants to bring the two lovebirds back together and see what they “can find there.” Read his response verbatim below:
Absolutely. Whenever we bring in a new love interest, we’ve got to watch the chemistry because we never know [if it will work]. But we love Sean, and they were great together, so we definitely want to bring them back together and see what we can find there.
While it is still unclear if “The Goonies” actor will return to the cast as a guest or a recurring star, I do hope that he gets a permanent gig because I absolutely adore the two together. I mean, look at their happy faces; they’re practically glowing!
Since the ABC show might be ending with the upcoming season, as Helford has previously mentioned, the phrase “the more, the merrier” comes to mind. If Astin does return as a recurring actor on “The Conners,” Becky might have a chance to permanently settle down with the potential love of her life by the end of the sitcom.
