“It will launch in August, coming out of the Summer Olympics, which is a coveted slot. We can think of nothing more deserving than giving it to the final season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. This is a beloved show and we wanted to give it a slot where it had access to the biggest possible audience.”

Frances Berwick, Chairman, Entertainment Networks, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming said that the whole season will air after the Olympics.

The Summer Olympics is set to open July 23 and close on August 8.

The proposal to debut the Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s final season after the Olympics will clearly serve as a huge ratings boost for the show.

However, she also disclosed that they will revisit that plan if the Tokyo Games do not go ahead due to Covid.

The 2020 Olympics had been delayed due to the pandemic, like the final season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which premiered its seventh season in April 2020. The eighth season of the series will comprise of ten episodes, which makes it the shortest season for the show, but production has been up and running.

The show initially ran for five seasons on Fox before it was cancelled. However, NBC picked up the show for a sixth season that aired in 2019. Season seven came out in spring 2020 and the eighth season was restored three months before season seven premiered.

The last season of the police procedural sitcom probably has a lot in store. Especially with the show promising to reflect the events of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter protests as well as the fact that Jake and Amy now have a son, it will be exciting to see how Brooklyn Nine-Nine concludes when the series returns for its final season.
