Things are looking bright for the British dark comedy This Way Up and for us too. The word is that a second season is already on the writer’s table for this Hulu original.
Writer and show’s star Aisling Bea is already working on the script for the sequel, as confirmed by her co-star Tobias Menzez in an interview with the Deadline.
“I think I’m allowed to say this, but yes, Aisling [Bea] is writing. Everyone is very keen to make some more of it. Hopefully, that’s one of the things we can do when we work out how to film again,” Menzez told the Deadline.
In line with Feel Good and Fleabag, this dramedy too is written and acted by the same person, making it all the more real and relatable.
This Way Up stars Aisling Bea as a woman trying to put her life back together following a nervous breakdown.
Even the critics absolutely fell in love with the rehabilitative universal theme of the show. Guardian termed it “the perfect tonic for our times” when it came out in August 2019.
In this current pandemic scenario especially, the theme of breakdown and coping seems more relatable.
The comedy series which airs on Hulu in the U.S. and on Channel 4 in the U.K., has received a star rating of 7.8 in IMDb with over a thousand votes.
Once the scripting is complete, the sequel is expected to start filming later this year.
Tobias also added, “The desire is to do it later this year and I’d love to go and do some more. I think it’s really great.”
Details of the second season’s director are not yet revealed. The first one was directed by Alex Winckler. There are no details of the cast either but we expect the major ones like Aisling Bea, Sharon Horgan, Tobias Menzez, Kadiff Kirwan among others.
