It often happens that an author’s debut work is the most memorable one to the fans. This is the case for Seven Seas Entertainment’s newly licensed manga “Boy Meets Maria”.
The manga is the work of the now deceased author, PEYO.
Boy Meets Maria is a story about young boys in love. The manga does a pretty good job promoting the LGBT+ movement and showing people that there’s no gender for love.
Seven Seas Entertainment revealed that the company plans to release Volume 1 of the manga in both digital and print form by October 2021.
Boy Meets Maria puts you in the shoes of our protagonist Taiga, a young boy who joined his school’s drama club in hopes of becoming a successful actor. Taiga finds Maria in the drama club and falls head over heels in love with her.
But what Taiga didn’t know was Maria being a young boy all along. You’d definitely feel invested and cheer on Taiga’s fight to win Maria’s heart disregarding the fact that his love, Maria, is a boy too.
PEYO is the pen name for mangaka Kosei Eguchi who passed away on August 19, 2020.
As heartbreaking as it is to imagine, the mangaka died at the mere age of 23 leaving behind some of his great works like Boy Meets Maria and Kimio Alive.
But we shouldn’t be too sad as Eguchi has left behind a piece of his heart in the form of his debut work Boy Meets Maria.
And to think this was his debut work at such a young age, makes it even more special. Kimio Alive is also one of Eguchi’s work but with his untimely death, the manga remains incomplete.
I will definite recommend this manga if you’re a fan of heartwarming love stories and want a remembrance to Eguchi’s work of art.
