Naruto’s new transformation incited mixed feelings among fans. While he might have enough power to defeat Isshiki, he also runs the risk of burning himself out.
Chapter 52 of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations brings some clarity to how this new mode functions.
Isshiki was proving to be a difficult opponent to all of our heroes. Sasuke and Boruto seemed to hold no chance against his beastly powers. However, Naruto took out his last weapon, and everything seems to be resting on him.
What is the Baryon Mode? How is it different from the previous modes of Naruto?
In chapter 52, Kurama explains the fundamentals of the “Baryon mode.” This transformation is very similar to a nuclear fusion process, where two atoms are combined to produce a large amount of energy.
How is it different from the other transformations? The Kurama mode and the Sages of the Six Path mode all use chakra from the objects around Naruto, i.e., external chakra.
However, the Baryon mode doesn’t use chakra. It uses energy in its most raw form.
Baryon mode acquires energy from both Naruto and Kurama until one or both of them are extinguished. Any unnecessary move will cost too much energy, and each second is precious.
How does Naruto plan to defeat Isshiki?
Naruto does not have much time to stay in the Baryon mode.
Another interesting fact about the Baryon mode is that it absorbs the energy of not only Naruto and Kurama but also anyone they touch. Every hit that Isshiki receives will shorten his lifespan.
Naruto plans to hit Isshiki as much as he can and make sure all of them connect. The only way to defeat the villain is by making sure that his lifespan runs out before Naruto and Kurama.
Isshiki himself realizes that his lifespan is decreasing rapidly. But before he can react, his lifespan decreased from 20 hours to 10 minutes.
He soon starts getting desperate and calls in Kawaki mid-battle. In the very last panel, Boruto opens his eyes.
We all know that Boruto is heavily injured, but we need to remember that the next chapter will be storyboarded by none other than Masashi Kishimoto. I think we can safely expect that a huge surprise is coming our way soon!
