Episode 12 Recap
This episode continues with Yatora pouring turpentine into his sketchbook to deliver his idea. He knew by getting a translucent texture with oil, he could create the idea of what nakedness means in his perspective.
The second day gets over, and Yatora gets back home. He meets Yotasuke, and Yatora tells him how his art is still on point. Yotasuke replies that it’s obvious. The next day at the exam center, Yatora decides to finish the artwork and work with the sketchbook.
His theme is now ‘nakedness is unreliable and pitiful’ and ‘wearing clothes is an act to hide that.’ As Yatora tries to portray his idea, he realizes his habit of evaluating is annoying but finds the strategy suitable. Later at break time, Yotasuke calls out Yatora on his strategy.
He also states how it’s irritating that Yatora has gotten better since they last met. This makes Yatora emotional, and he gets all happy because a genius said his skills have improved. With two hours left for the final part of the exam, Yatora works on his sketchbook.
He goes through how he’s got a better perspective on things after starting art. He thought his strategies and effort were setbacks at times, but it truly was his secret weapon. The second exam of the Tokyo University of the Arts is finally over.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Saeki and Ryuji talked about how the art exams were over. Ryuji tells Mrs. Saeki that there’s nothing to worry about, for Yatora is more than capable of getting through the exam. With the exam days over, Yatora hangs with his three close friends.
Later in the art club, he reveals he’ll skip the graduation ceremony due to the art exam results falling on the same day. As the students clean up the art room, Mr. Saeki asks about Yatora’s exam. He says he has no regrets but has a lot to reflect on.
Yatora further explains how things started poorly in the exam, but he could finish his work. He mentions he could’ve done better, but he can only do so much with his abilities at that moment. Mrs. Saeki is pleased to hear his words.
As the graduation day takes place, Yatora goes to check the results. Yatora gets nervous and comes across Kuwana at the result site. They both scan the result board, and Yatora gets astonished. His exam number is displayed on the result board, making Yatora dumbstruck.
Kuwana doesn’t get through the selection and leaves nervously. Yatora processes the results and goes to the desk to get his enrollment paper. At the desk, he sees Yotasuke and finds he passed too. Later he calls his parents and informs them about his results.
Afterward, Yatora visits cram school, and Mrs. Ooba congratulates him. Mrs. Ooba states there’ll be many things to do since Yatora is now a university student.
Yatora thanks Mrs. Ooba for her guidance in art. She replies, how a work of art is over the moment you give up on it.
Later Yatora informs his friends, and they are happy for him. Kuwana gets emotional with her sister and says she’ll try again next year. At the art club, Yatora reproduces his art piece for his university.
Mrs. Ooba finds the work good and asks if he’s prepared for university life. Yatora says he still hasn’t processed the whole thing. Later, Mr. Gotou appears and tells Yatora to collect his graduation certificate.
As Yatora heads to collect his certificate, Mori enters and meets Mrs. Saeki. Mrs. Ooba realizes Mori just missed Yatora while Mori looks at the art piece in the room. She is stunned by the art piece and states the painting is gorgeous.
