2. Recap of Episode 12 of Blue Lock
Episode 12 of Blue Lock starts out with a flashback of Oliver’s school life, where he was also to cooperate with his team when he said he wanted to score goals on his own. The lack of support that his coaches showed toward his passion to become the best striker in the world resulted in him losing his passion. He then decided to be the best defender in the world, almost out of spite, so that he could outshine strikers who want to be the best in the world.
Right after the flashback, we got to see Oliver enter the “flow.” He was able to react faster than ever and asserted such absolute dominance in the field that none of Rin’s attempts were going through. Ultimately, the ball reached Itoshi Sae, and their team was ready to counterattack. Shidou grabbed his next opportunity to shine in front of Itoshi Sae, so he took the ball and headed toward his goal. However, Reo had marked him, and with a perfect copy of Nagi’s jumping turn, he saved the ball and passed it to Nagi.
Nagi passed the ball to Isagi, and after this, Isagi struggled to find his path to the goal. Meanwhile, Barou had his eyes fixated on his prey, Isagi. He was determined to discover his “Flow” and to devour Isagi. The last piece that Isagi needed to achieve his goal was filled by Karasu, who also had his eyes on Isagi. A perfect teamplay between Karasu, Isagi, and Nagi led Isagi directly in front of the goal post; however, it Itoshi Sae had read through every part of Isagi’s plan and appeared right at the spot where Isagi was going to hit his direct shoot.
Isagi didn’t lose hope though, as Rin had marked Isagi’s evolution as well, and reached right on time to receive a pass from Isagi, but was blocked by Oliver. Right when things were looking really grim, Barou dashed in and scored the goal. His entire plan was to mark Isagi, and since he knew Isagi inside out, and though Rin’s brain works the same way Isagi’s does, all the pieces connected, and he successfully scored a goal, leaving both teams at the same score.
After their goal was scored, Isagi realized that they were capable of scoring this goal because of the chain of fixations that most of their team members had. The fixation that one player has on the other made a chain that led to their goal, as we saw with Nagi, Barou, Isagi, and Rin. He figured out that this was the key to winning their match against U-20. The episode ended with everyone on the field gearing up to score their next goal.
3. Speculation of Episode 12 of Blue Lock
The match between U-20 and Blue Lock is nearing it’s completion, as time is running out. With both teams having the same score thanks to the perfect counter that Blue Lock achieved, there’s more hope. In episode 13 of Blue Lock, we can expect Sendou from U-20 to be more active on the field since he even got a pep talk from Oliver.
Rin and Barou were on fire in episode 12, so we can expect a lot more from both in the coming episode. The same applies to Oliver, as he’s also found his flow in the match. Itoshi Sae also asked their manager not to put any substitutes in, as everyone in U-20 still had the will to fight, so no changes would be seen in their team.
4. About Blue Lock
Blue Lock is a Japanese manga series written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. It has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine since August 2018. Blue Lock won the 45th Kodansha Manga Award in the shōnen category in 2021.
The story begins with Japan’s elimination from the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which prompts the Japanese Football Union to start a program scouting high school players who will begin training in preparation for the 2022 Cup.
Isagi Youichi, a forward, receives an invitation to this program soon after his team loses the chance to go to Nationals because he passed to his less-skilled teammate.
Their coach will be Ego Jinpachi, who intends to “destroy Japanese loser football” by introducing a radical new training regimen: isolate 300 young strikers in a prison-like institution called “Blue Lock”.
