The final episode of Blue Lock concluded the second selection, but the real problem has just begun. With seven teams qualified, the training now veers from the regular process. This unpredictability is what makes a sports anime worth a go.
Igaguri managed to be in the top 35 but Kunigami missed the spot. The entire fate of the Blue Lock program now lies in a showdown with the National U-20 team. We can say that the second season will be heated up and you will get to watch it soon.
On Sunday, after the final episode of Blue Lock, a teaser was revealed that announced that the soccer series will get a second season and a movie that will adapt the “Blue Lock: Episode Nagi” manga.
The fifteen-second teaser shows a few main characters – Yoichi Isagi, Meguru Bachira, Seishiro Nagi, Rin Itoshi, and Jinpachi Ego and ends with a poster announcing the two installments.
Blue Lock: Episode Nagi is a spin-off manga series that focuses on Seishiro Nagi and tells the events before he joined Blue Lock.
Six new cast members were introduced in the final episode and will play an important role in the next season. The official website revealed the new cast:
Character | Voice Artist | Other Works |
Ryūsei Shidō | Yūichi Nakamura | Gray Fullbuster (Fairy Tail) |
Tabito Karasu | Makoto Furukawa | Taiju Ōki (Dr. Stone) |
Eita Otoya | Kengo Kawanishi | Muichirō Tokitō (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba) |
Kenyu Yukimiya | Takuya Eguchi | Loid Forger (Spy×Family) |
Julian Loki | Hiro Shimono | Dabi (My Hero Academia) |
Leonardo Luna | Shin’ichirō Kamio | Kaede Rukawa (The First Slam Dunk) |
No further details have been disclosed by the staff, but a quick announcement suggests that the cast and staff will return for the series and the movie.
The first season covered eleven volumes from the manga, so the second season will most likely cover an equal amount of material. The animation was met with mixed reactions, so the staff might need to take some pointers to make it better.
About Blue Lock
Blue Lock is a Japanese manga series written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. It has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine since August 2018. Blue Lock won the 45th Kodansha Manga Award in the shōnen category in 2021.
The story begins with Japan’s elimination from the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which prompts the Japanese Football Union to start a program scouting high school players who will begin training in preparation for the 2022 Cup.
Isagi Youichi, a forward, receives an invitation to this program soon after his team loses the chance to go to Nationals because he passed to his less-skilled teammate.
Their coach will be Ego Jinpachi, who intends to “destroy Japanese loser football” by introducing a radical new training regimen: isolate 300 young strikers in a prison-like institution called “Blue Lock”.
