Episode 1 Recap

Episode 1 began with Isagi running with the ball to score a goal against Matsukaze Kokuou so his team could qualify for the finals. The match was intense because the rival team had already scored against them, and the time left was significantly less.

Isagi was their only chance because he almost made it to the other half of the field. While he was about to make a goal, Tada-chan called out for the ball, and Isagi passed him.

Unfortunately, the ball hit the pole, and Ryosuke had control of the ball. He scored another goal against the Ichinan team, and they won the match and qualified for the finals.

When he returned home, his mom gave him a letter from the Japan Football Union under his name. The letter suggested that he was selected to become a “certified athlete.”

He then introduced everyone to the facility named Blue Lock, which was specially designed to improve the players’ performance. He told them out of 300 selected candidates; only one could be the world’s most fantastic striker.

Everyone was furious but agreed to train themselves at the Blue Lock facility. There they were assigned rooms and numbers where they had to stay.

Then Ego Jinpachi made another announcement where they have to play a game called tag in which the one has to hit others with the ball and save themselves from being hit.

The only condition was that if a player had the ball and couldn’t switch anyone, he wouldn’t play for the Japan team. At last, the ball was with Isagi, and he hit Ryosuke; the episode ended with a twist.

About Blue Lock

Blue Lock is a Japanese manga series written by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and illustrated by Yusuke Nomura. It has been serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine since August 2018. Blue Lock won the 45th Kodansha Manga Award in the shōnen category in 2021.

The story begins with Japan’s elimination from the 2018 FIFA World Cup, which prompts the Japanese Football Union to start a program scouting high school players who will begin training in preparation for the 2022 Cup.

Isagi Youichi, a forward, receives an invitation to this program soon after his team loses the chance to go to Nationals because he passed to his less-skilled teammate.

Their coach will be Ego Jinpachi, who intends to “destroy Japanese loser football” by introducing a radical new training regimen: isolate 300 young strikers in a prison-like institution called “Blue Lock”.
