Blue Exorcist: The Complete Filler-Free Watch Order Guide

Blue Exorcist is a classic Shonen anime with many modern elements. The story is quite a cliché involving Satan, demonic possessions, and tons of battle style exorcism.

Even though it’s quite predictable manages to entertain the audiences very easily. The show has some memorable characters and is equal proportions of humor and seriousness.

While there is nothing wrong with the filler episodes, the finale of Season 1 throws all the character progress under the bus.

Even though the rest of the fillers are good anime originals, we recommend to skip them altogether due to the disastrous ending.

4. Conclusion

The recommended order for watching Blue Exorcist is its release order.

The movie takes place between episodes 18 and 19 of season 1 and hence, is not canon. Specials are standalone and can be viewed at any time (ideally after season 1).

5. About Blue Exorcist

In the Blue Exorcist Universe, there are two different realms called Assiah and Gehenna. Assiah is where ordinary humans live, and Gehenna is the world of demons. The only way to travel between the two worlds is by possession.

Satan, the ruler of Gehenna, decides to conquer Assiah, but to do so, he must possess a human. Unfortunately for him, he does not find a suitable vessel and hence, sends his own son, expecting him to grow into a suitable vessel.

Rin Okumura, a regular teenager with quite a temper, has no idea that his actual father was Satan. Nor did he know about being a suitable vessel. However, after eventually discovering his fate, he decides to change it and joins an academy to train to become an exorcist so that he could foil Satan’s plans.
