Blue Exorcist or Ao no Exorcist is a Spring 2011 anime that received another season in 2017. Ever since Season 2 was released almost 6 years after the first season, fans have been patiently waiting for Season 3.
The anime was adapted from the manga series created and illustrated by Kazue Katou.
Assiah, the human realm, and Gehenna, the realm of demons, act like two sides of the same coin. They’re joint together but are unable to intersect.
However, demons can slide into Assiah by possessing anything material from the human world.
Rin Okumura is an ordinary teen, and quite the troublemaker. He lives a peaceful life but all hell breaks loose when his adopted father dies due to a demonic possession by Satan himself.
After this accident Rin discovers that he was actually the son of Satan, destined to inherit his powers.
After this mind-blowing discovery, Rin promises vengeance on Satan and joins the True Cross Academy to become an exorcist where his twin, Yukio was a teacher.
1. Release Date
There is no official confirmed release date for Season 3 of the adaptation of Blue Exorcist.
However, an overwhelming majority of fans are still waiting for a new season, and hence, the anime can return somewhere around Summer or Winter 2022.
Season 3 will most probably run for a duration of 12 episodes if there are no fillers.
2. What to Expect From Season 3
The upcoming season of Ao no Exorcist may cover the next four or five manga volumes, i.e., Volumes 10 through 13 or 14. There are 26 volumes in total, and the manga is still ongoing.
Season 1 of the anime served as an introduction to the setting and workings of the world it is set in.
The story progresses in Season 2 with Rin learning to control his Satanic powers, hiding his lineage from his classmates and friends, and killing some demons.
Eventually, the truth comes to light, and Rin has to prove his allegiance to the human race while trying to prevent the Impure King’s right eye from being stolen.
The new season may find Rin and his friends dealing with a group called the Illuminati, led by Lucifer with malicious intent. Season 3 might also reveal the story behind the Gehenna Gate: a portal between Assiah and Gehenna.
Rin and Yukio must work together and find a way to stop the Illuminati.
3. About Blue Exorcist
In the Blue Exorcist Universe, there are two different realms called Assiah and Gehenna. Assiah is where ordinary humans live, and Gehenna is the world of demons. The only way to travel between the two worlds is by possession.
Satan, the ruler of Gehenna, decides to conquer Assiah, but he must possess a human to do so. Unfortunately for him, he does not find a suitable vessel and hence, sends his own son, expecting him to grow into a suitable vessel.
Rin Okumura, a regular teenager with quite a temper, has no idea that his actual father was Satan. Nor did he know about being a suitable vessel.
However, after eventually discovering his fate, he decides to change it and joins an academy to train to become an exorcist so that he could foil Satan’s plans.
