In episode 8 of “Blue Exorcist: Shimane Illuminati Saga,” titled “Determination,” we see small bits of character development in people like Konekomaru and Suguro as they fight against the mutated zombies. Suguro searches for meaning in fighting for those he loves even though they will leave him one day, Shima being an example.

Surprisingly, some things have gone wrong with Izumo. Years ago, the tests showed that she was compatible with inheriting the nine-tailed fox, but after all this time, the results say there’s only a 0.08% chance that the possession will succeed. After hearing the results, an enraged Dr. Gedoin decided to kill the exwires as compensation even though Lucifer told him not to.

All of the students except Rin killed the zombie that was released from their cell. Even someone like Shiemi did it to survive, but Rin couldn’t bring himself to do it because of his oath to stay on the human’s side. As he delves deeper into dealing with the Illuminati, he’ll most definitely have to work on these soft emotions cause the organization consists primarily of humans. 

Sadly, once again, we didn’t see anything related to Nemu’s powers, which made him even more mysterious. Dr. Gideon is desperate to kill Rin and everyone else, and no one knows what else he has in his stock other than these zombies. Shima hasn’t shown any hints of switching sides; instead, he’s greatly helping the organization. In episode 9, the group will finally break into the main facility.

Gedoin was summoned by Lucifer to talk about the progression of the elixir. It was his first time seeing him, and he was simply petrified at the majestic looks of the commander. After the talk about the elixir was finished, Gedoin asked Lucifer what he should do with the exwires, especially Okumura Rin. Lucifer forbade him from causing any harm to Rin, and as for the others, he’d think about it.

While returning to the lab, a researcher came running to Gedoin with a diagnostic report of Izumo. Years ago, they diagnosed her, and they said she was 87% compatible with possessing the nine tails, but after all these years, the report noted that the success rate is only 0.08%. Gideon decided to bet on the small percentage since he couldn’t afford to fail to impress Lucifer.

In a rage, he decided to kill all the exwires and make up an excuse for it later. Shima was there to assist him, but he didn’t say anything. He went to the lab and opened the gates, thus releasing the chimera zombies on Rin and the others. The team had a lot of trouble fighting them, but eventually, they outwitted the zombies.

Rin was the only one who couldn’t kill the zombie but instead just kept running away. The fact that the zombies used to be humans played a significant role in this. He used his attack to break the cells and free everyone. After gathering together, they heard Gedoin’s voice from the speakers.

Blue Exorcist is a Japanese dark fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Kazue Katō.

In the Blue Exorcist Universe, there are two different realms called Assiah and Gehenna. Assiah is where ordinary humans live, and Gehenna is the world of demons. The only way to travel between the two worlds is by possession.

Satan, the ruler of Gehenna, decides to conquer Assiah, but to do so, he must possess a human. Unfortunately for him, he does not find a suitable vessel and hence, sends his own son, expecting him to grow into a suitable vessel.
