The guy we all thought to be just another comic side character turned out to be an important turning point in the show. Till now, the show was all about training Rin and the others to become exorcists, but the goals have changed. Chaos has been unfolded unto the world with Lucifer’s declaration of War.

The real fight starts now, and even Rin understands this himself. In episode 5 of “Blue Exorcist: Shimane Illuminati Saga,” the exwires will embark on a journey to rescue their friend Kamiki Izumo and seek answers from Shima.
3. Recap of Episode 4
The episode picks off from where episode 3 ended. Takara Nemu got Izumo to follow him, showing a stuffed toy she knew all too well. At the same time, on the other side, Lightning and Arthur raided an Illuminati base. From one of the people he captured, he found out about their plan of abducting Kamiki Izumo.
He passed this information immediately to Shura, who was in charge of finding the spy. She gathered Yukio and all the exwires and told them to wait for her. Back to Izumo again, we see that Nemu proclaims himself as the Illuminati spy. As he tries to stop Izumo from running, Shima comes to her rescue.
In a desperate attempt to stop Nemu, Shima summoned his familiar, Yamantaka, a high-ranking Myo-o demon. Izumo was fairly surprised to see this, but the surprises didn’t end there. Shima revealed another weapon, the hellfire spear capable of burning people’s souls.
He struck Nemu with it, but this just sent him flying. Izumo tried to go and get help, and at that exact moment, the biggest twist of this show happened. Shima, the character we all thought was just a comic relief ever since season 1, showed his true colors. Nemu wasn’t the spy, it was Shima all along.
On Yukio’s side, everyone arrived before Shima, Rin, and Shura. Rin joined them soon, but he kept running towards Izumo instead of stopping. Feeling something was off, Shura also called Arthur for backup, but it was too late. A bright light momentarily blinds everyone. Lightning recognizes it as the Seraphim, dependent on the “King of Light” himself.
Mephisto suddenly appeared before Rin and the others, shielding them from the light. It wasn’t long before the king of light, Lucifer, eldest son of Satan, appeared himself. Mephisto greeted his older brother, but Lucifer declared war on the Knights of True Cross without wasting a word. He requested Mephisto/Samael to join them, but Mephisto denied without a second thought.
Afterward, he left with Izumo and Shima, leaving the exwires totally shocked by Shima’s betrayal. This was only the beginning of the chaos as all the shields around true cross academy were taken down from Lucifer’s arrival. Mephisto assigned Yukio and the exwires a mission to rescue Kamiki Izumo as soon as possible since things were going to get really busy from now on.
