2. Recap of Blue Box Episode 8
In Blue Box episode 8, titled ‘Score,’ Taiki Inomata and his doubles partner Haryu face off against the Sajikawa High School’s star players, Hyodo and Tateyama, in the Prefectural Qualifiers.
Despite the duo’s best efforts, they lose, with Sajikawa’s dominance revealing the immense skill gap between them and their opponents. Later, Taiki’s singles match against Yusa ends in another crushing defeat.
These defeats leave him reeling from his shortcomings. The difference in capabilities is enough to make the previously confident player despair.
Chinatsu finds that Taiki has lost his match and heads over to comfort him. She sees that he is sleeping on a desk with a paper in front of him.
“I’ll get my smashes on the court,” he had written on the paper. Chinatsu is glad that the defeats have not disheartened Taiki’s sportsmanship spirit. Her admiration for him grows stronger.
We see Taiki’s emotional struggle as he processes these setbacks. Meanwhile, Chinatsu celebrates her basketball team advancing to Nationals, and Taiki confronts his failure, fueling his determination to grow stronger. His renewed resolve means he won’t give up and will only try harder.
3. Speculations for Episode 9
The next episode will likely focus on Taiki’s training to close the gap between himself and elite players like Yusa and Hyodo.
His interactions with Haryu and Chinatsu might inspire a deeper focus on his goals; Haryu might also see that there is a gap between them and the others and set off to find a coach, someone to test their mettle against.
Additionally, Chinatsu’s basketball journey could be pivotal in motivating Taiki. Their shared determination to succeed in sports might evolve their dynamic. We may see further personal growth and deepening bonds.
