Derek Kolstad, the John Wick franchise creator, has turned his eyes to the manga industry, and guess which series has caught his eyes? Hellsing, the bloody, vampirey goodness, is the series that Kolstad wants to explore!
Hellsing is a classic vampire horror manga, and it turns out Kolstad is obsessed with it. Amazon studio is ready to work on the film. Now, this has got to be a recipe to create a blockbuster movie!
Derek Kolstad is collaborating with Amazon Studios to create the live-action feature film inspired by Hellsing, the vampire manga series by Kouta Hirano.
Kolstad excitedly commented, “Ever since my brother introduced me to the Hellsing manga and anime some years ago, I’ve been obsessed about adapting it.”
Hellsing is a very gory and violent series, and both its manga and anime have proved that. John Wick is also a bloody series, and Kolstad is one of the few people who will be able to depict the heart of the series carefully. It is a collaboration project that is worth looking forward to.
Mike Callaghan said that Kolstad is an exceptional writer, especially in “building rich mythology filled with iconic characters.” Callaghan was the one to secure the rights to the series.
The producers of the film also include Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger from Automatik. Ranger 7 Films’ Reuben Liber and Soluble Fish Productions’ Jason Lust are also involved in the production.
Hellsing had been adapted into a 13-episode anime series in 2001, and an OVA series called Hellsing Ultimate was irregularly shipped from 2006-2012. Both Funimation and Crunchyroll stream the series.
Alucard, the protagonist of the anime, is a vampire, but he hunts his own kind. Will the live-action feature film do justice to the love of horror manga fans?
