Junji Ito’s Bloodsucking Darkness Manga is Getting a Film Adaptation!

Junji Ito is one of the biggest horror creators in manga, and his works are known for their unsettling and disturbing themes, often featuring grotesque and surreal imagery that leaves a lasting impression on readers.

His long career has led to numerous adaptations of his work. While much of it as of late has been in anime form, several stories, such as Scarecrow and Uzumaki, have been adapted for live action, and we have exciting news for the fans of Junji Ito’s work.

Variety reported on Thursday that Junji Ito’s “Bloodsucking Darkness” story is being produced into a live-action film, with screenwriter and executive producer Jeff Howard (Resident Evil 2021 series co-executive producer, The Haunting of Hill House supervising producer) writing the screenplay. Ito is one of the project’s producers, and the film is being produced by Fangoria Studios.

While there is no premiere window for the film, it is exciting to know that Junji Ito’s work continues to be adapted for live-action and that the project has a talented screenwriter and executive producer attached to it, as well as Ito himself as a producer.

Fans of Ito’s work can look forward to seeing Bloodsucking Darkness come to life on the big screen and being blown away by the quality.

“Bloodsucking Darkness” is one of Ito’s many one-shot manga short stories. The plot revolves around Nami, a girl who is so devoted to dieting that she starts vomiting blood. She dreams of a world where it pours blood, and she wakes up with blood all around her. She meets a boy called Kazuya, who shows concern about her dieting and attempts to become close to her.
