After its release and spectacular praise at the Venice Film Festival, Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe’s biopic is set to release on Netflix on September 28, 2022. The much-awaited movie got a teaser back in June and a trailer in July before the release at the international event.
Ana De Armas plays the iconic Marilyn Monroe in the film coming soon on Netflix after a limited theatrical release on September 16, 2022. Other cast members include Bobby Cannavale, Adrien Brody, Xavier Samuel, Julianne Nicholson, and many more.
The teaser released in June had not shown much about the film but gave a sneak peek into an emotionally captivating scene of the famous Ana De Armas playing Marilyn’s part to a tee. You can check out the teaser below:
The trailer released at the end of July gave more insight into how the film will highlight the life of Norma Jeane behind the screens, on which she plays the part of Marilyn Monroe. It will also show how her life is far from the perfect Hollywood star that people envisioned in the ’50s and ’60s.
The trailer was released roughly a month before the film’s release at the Venice International Film Festival and created just the right amount of buzz with high praise for Ana De Armas, who played her role in an absorbing and emotionally moving manner. Watch the trailer by Netflix below:
The trailer begins with Marilyn (Ana De Armas) telling Joe DiMaggio, Marilyn’s second husband, how she was discovered. Her voice in the background shook as a chilling scene insinuating an uncomfortable interaction with a producer played on the screen, depicting Norma Jeane’s very entry into Hollywood as traumatizing.
The trailer shows peak moments of Marilyn Monroe’s life, like the iconic skirt in the wind moment, in a different and much more honest light. All these moments, so glamorous in the public’s eye, had a stressful impact on Norma Jean, who “can’t face doing another scene with Marilyn Monroe.”
The depiction of her two lives, one public and one private, both being so different, is very expertly captured in the trailer that teases an epic closer watch into the iconic actress’s life behind the screen.
The film has received high praise, but some critics have labeled Andrew Dominik’s portrayal of the Hollywood icon as “exploitative and disrespectful.” But all viewers and critics agree that this is the best work Ana De Armas has done in her career.
Whether it really is apt or exaggerated, viewers can judge for themselves when it is released worldwide on Netflix on September 28, 2022.
