Blizzard likes to keep the community around their games happy by listening to their feedback and giving them a sneak peek of what’s coming.
Season 4 of Overwatch draws to a close, with 27 days until the launch of Season 5. Ahead of this, the developers have released a concrete roadmap giving an insight into what seasons 5, 6, 7, and beyond would look like, with news on new events, PvE, new heroes, and new maps.
Season 5 will feature a limited-time Questwatch event, the return of the Summer Games event, and something called Mischief&Magic. Season 6 will see introductions to story missions, Hero Master, a new support Hero being added to the roster, and the Flashpoint game mode. Season 7 and beyond will bring a new tank hero, a new limited-time collaboration event, and new control maps, amongst other changes.
Diving in deep, it was mentioned that Questwatch coming to Season 5 will be a limited-time event, along with Cinematic reveals and summer games. There will also be 5v5 mini-comp seasons and creator workshop mode.
Season 6 will see a new support hero, story missions, flashpoint, hero master, the introduction of firing range, and changes to the player progression system. It would also coincide with the Overwatch 2 anniversary. Hence, we can expect some special content.
Season 7 and beyond look promising as well. With a new tank hero, new winter event, new control map, and new multiplayer hero mastery missions, players are almost guaranteed a fun gaming experience.
In addition to this, “fan favorite modes” are promised to make a return. While it remains vague what it strictly refers to, this will spark rumors in the Overwatch community.
A Roadhog rework is reportedly in the works for release in Season 7 and beyond. Cinematic Debuts are also coming along with Lore Codex and a Sombra Rework.
The development team at Blizzard may be leaving their plans for a substantial PvE experience behind, but they’re realigning their goals to help create more engaging seasonal content. This is promising because the players will stay engaged in the game moving forward.
About Overwatch 2
Overwatch 2 is an upcoming first-person shooter developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. The sequel to the 2016 hero shooter Overwatch, the game is intended to have a shared environment for player-versus-player (PvP) modes with the first game while introducing persistent cooperative modes. A major change in PvP was to reduce team sizes from six to five, which required several characters to be reworked.
Overwatch 2 was launched as free-to-play on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in early access on October 4, 2022.
