One of the first bugs to hit Overwatch 2 was the auto-purchase bug which caused players to buy things accidentally from the store using in-game credits.
The bug was spotted by Reddit user u/Dracyoshi, who found out while using chat with some friends in the game’s hero gallery that he had unknowingly bought Junker Queen’s Plutonium Skin from the store using in-game currency. Before he could cancel the purchase, the transaction went through.
The auto-purchase bug has since been fixed by Blizzard. Apparently, it was caused by a bug where text typed into the chat was occasionally misinterpreted by the game as an input for navigating the menu. However, when asking for a refund for the cosmetics, Blizzard denied them.
User u/Dracyoshi contacted Blizzard’s support team to enquire about the refund of the auto-purchased cosmetics but only received a disappointing answer.
After checking into it, we are not able to offer refunds or any compensation for unlocks made with in-game currency in Overwatch,

All those unlocks are meant to be final.

Blizzard unable to provide refunds for cosmetics which were automatically purchased owing to the fault of a bug present in the game seems really scummy and greedy. They could easily provide refunds for cosmetics which players unknowingly bought and hopefully they do so in the future.
It seems like Overwatch 2’s woes continue. Only time will tell whether Blizzard listens to the players’ appeal and deploy the updates and fixes required.
About Overwatch 2
Overwatch 2 is an upcoming first-person shooter developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. The sequel to the 2016 hero shooter Overwatch, the game is intended to have a shared environment for player-versus-player (PvP) modes with the first game while introducing persistent cooperative modes. A major change in PvP was to reduce team sizes from six to five, which required several characters to be reworked.
Overwatch 2 was launched as free-to-play on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in early access on October 4, 2022.
