The episode began with Lille Barro targeting Shunsui’s chest and piercing it. Well, it appeared to pierce Shunsui; however, he used his Shikai ability, which converts children’s games into reality, to evade Barro’s attack. The particular game he used was “Bodhirama falls down”.

Shunsui didn’t feel their fight would be fair if his adversary didn’t know his ability, so he took the pain of explaining his Shikai, which Barro was already aware of. The battle after that escalated quite quickly, and Shunsui seemed to have the upper hand for a moment until Barro opened his eye a third time, causing him to unleash the quintessence of the axis’ power, which momentarily immobilized Shunsui. In the blink of an eye, he had a few holes punctured in his body and was gravely injured.

While that attack would’ve normally taken anyone’s life, Shunsui was a bit too sturdy to have died there, so he fled from the place momentarily, only to get tailed by Barro and attacked again. Here, he used his Kido blade against Barro with the hopes that it would work against Barro, and he escaped using the diversion.

Right when things were looking grim, almost as if Shunsui had lost, the scales were tipped when Shunsui activated his Bankai for the first time in the series. There are no amount words that can describe the sheer strength that Shunsui emanated during the moment he activated his Bankai, and for that reason, we urge you to watch/rewatch this scene for your own satisfaction.

From there, Shunsui dominated the fight, demonstrating the four acts associated with his Bankai, which utterly defeated Barro. During Shunsui’s Bankai activation, Ohana, his Zanpakuto spirit, made an appearance, and after the fight ended, Shunsui collapsed onto her lap, and the episode concluded in Shunsui’s victory.

3. Speculations for Episode 10

In episode 10, titled “Baby Hold Your Hand 2”, we’ll be seeing more of Mayuri and Pernida’s battle, as that hadn’t concluded yet. Since Shunsui and Barro’s battle has already concluded, we can expect him to recuperate for a while, so he may not be having an appearance for the time being.

Meanwhile, Ichigo, too is having his own battle in the vicinity, so it’s also likely that we’ll see a bit of that as well.
