It has been almost five years since the Bleach manga ended. Although it lost a lot of steam towards its end, it still remains to be a top-tier shonen. With the 20th anniversary of the manga creeping up, Tite Kubo has something special up his sleeve.
Bleach was one of the three kings from the shonen of the previous generation. Although it lacks the newer fan base that the other two have, the old one is basically a dedicated cult, which will rise again.
The Bleach manga will receive a special 73-page chapter in the combined 36-37th Issue of the Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine on 10th August 2021. The chapter will be drawn by Tite Kubo himself to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the manga’s serialization.
With the stories of the main characters wrapped up, this might mark the beginning of the adventure of Kazui Kurosaki, Ichigo and Orihime’s son, and Ichika Abarai, Rukia, and Renji’s daughter.
The duo had previously made a small appearance at the end of the manga, maybe just for this very possibility.
If Kubo isn’t planning a sequel, the chapter could just flesh out the endings for other characters like Toshiro or the Soul Society as a whole.
These special chapters tend to be a carrier for major news and future plans for the franchise. With the anime adaptation of the Thousand-Year Blood War arc seemingly lost now; this might be the perfect place for a big announcement.
Another popular speculation is that this special might be a tie-in with Kubo’s latest manga, Burn the Witch, which takes place in the same universe as Bleach, just in England.
With all this nostalgia and minds overloaded with all the possibilities, 10th August could not come any sooner.
About Bleach
Bleach is a Japanese anime television series based on Tite Kubo’s manga of the same name. The anime series adapts Kubo’s manga but also introduces some new, original, self-contained story arcs.
It is based in Karakura Town on a 15-year-old high school student Ichigo Kurosaki who becomes a substitute Soul Reaper when Rukia Kuchiki, a Soul Reaper, puts Soul Reaper powers in Ichigo. They barely manage to kill the hollow.
Although initially reluctant to accept the heavy responsibility, he begins eliminating some more hollows and also discovers that several of his friends and classmates are spiritually aware and have powers of their own.
