The Blade Runner series is bigger than ever after the 2017 sequel to the cult movie starring Harison Ford opened the floodgates of content!
After Denis Villeneuve, the director of Blade Runner: 2049, revealed the anime shorts that would build upon the films, everyone was excited about a full-fledged Blade Runner anime series. So, it seems like Black Lotus is the answer to that demand.
Adult Swim and Crunchyroll co-production Blade Runner: Black Lotus debuted its first trailer at San Diego Comic-Con @ Home 2021. The series is set to premiere on both the networks by Fall 2021.
The trailer is accompanied by the theme song called “Feel you Now” by Grammy winner Alessia Cara, created for the show.
The trailer features everything that is ‘Blade Runner’ from neon lights, floating cars to haunting skyscrapers. However, I was blown away by the action sequences, which are way beyond anything we see in previous installments.
Additionally, the primary visual for Blade Runner: Black Lotus was also released. The series is set to have 13 episodes directed by Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) and Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex).
Furthermore, the English and the Japanese voice cast have already been announced.
The Blade Runner: Black Lotus is set in Los Angeles in 2032, between the original Blade Runner and Blade Runner: 2049. Black Lotus follows Elle, a replicant on the loose from her creators. In the trailer, we see her on the run, hunted by Blade Runners.
For the fans of the series, the new anime series will be a fantastic addition to their watchlist; for the newcomers, it won’t be that hard to follow anime due to its stand-alone story. Overall, if you are a cyberpunk fan, then Black Lotus will be right up your alley.
So, don’t miss out on the series in the fall.
