Black Widow released today, and dare I say, it’s got one of the best-choreographed action sequences in the MCU till now! Helmed by director Cate Shortland, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow gets a fitting farewell.
1. Quick Review
Black Widow
Air Date: July 9, 2021 Status: Upcoming Studio: Marvel StudiosOnce again, Marvel has won us over with an edgy action thriller with deep nuances of human emotions. The film brings Natasha Romanoff’s dysfunctional family to the forefront, telling their story that we all yearned to hear so far.
Black Widow is a film with people and family at its core & yes, this is a movie about ‘family’ you’d rather watch!
If you’re wondering what that meant, here’s a tiny hint: The other so-called ‘family’ movie has steroid-fuelled car action sequences that’ll make you question the existence of physics.
2. Is It Worth Watching?
Yes! A hundred times yes! (I could’ve said 3000 there.)
Black Widow is a must-watch for fans of the character, the franchise, and people who so badly wanted to know Natasha Romanoff’s origin story.
3. Plot
The film begins with a small sequence where Natasha and her family fled to Russia after a successful mission while Natasha and Yelena were still little kids. On reaching there, the kids are taken into a program to become trained assassins.
After this, the film picks up at the end of the civil war events wherein we see Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, on the run since she is a fugitive who broke the Sokovia Accords. We see the titular character go back to her roots and where she came from.
Thus begins her journey back to the past, back to her family, and back to finish what she had once started.
I. Cast And Characters
Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Black Widow for the last time, and Rachel Weisz accompanies her as Melinda, Florence Pugh as Yelena, and David Harbour as Alexei. If you’re wondering where you’ve seen David Harbour, it’s from Stranger Things.
All characters are given their share while Scarlett and Florence dominate the film. Each of these cast members has played their role to perfection. Their performances were convincing and made me invest in them emotionally despite knowing them for merely two hours.
The antagonist Dreykov played by Ray Winstone doesn’t have much time on the screen, which is my only complaint. I wish I got to see more of him because what makes one a great superhero is a worthy adversary.
