Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is currently in production, and last month leaked set video revealed a major possible spoiler for the film. Now, the long-awaited sequel has another on-set update.
It was recently confirmed by none other than Marvel boss Kevin Feige himself that Ironheart, aka Riri Williams, will make her MCU debut in Wakanda Forever. Dominique Thorne will play Riri in the sequel before moving onto her own Disney+ series.
Filming is underway at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where Riri goes to school in the comics. The update came via Instagram user @howarinedroma and gave us the first look at Thorne on set.
The Ironheart series was confirmed at last year’s Disney Investor Day presentation. It will follow Riri, a teenage girl and genius inventor who creates the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man.
Thorne was dressed in plain clothes, which suggests that Riri is still just a student at MIT and hasn’t yet created her Ironheart armor. So will she end up creating the suit in the film, or will they save it for the series?
Thorne, who has two acting credits under her belt, If Beale Street Could Talk and Judas And The Black Messiah, talked to Empire Magazine earlier this year about Ironheart,
I was at home in Delaware, and I got a call asking if I would like to play this role. It was the best phone call I could have ever received. I was so shocked, in fact, that there was a considerable lag in the conversation!
I was waiting for them to say, like, ‘Oh, we’ll send you the sides’, or, ‘Get your tape over to us.’ But there was none of that. It was just like, ‘Would you like to do this?’ It was probably the most unique experience I’ve ever had because there was no audition at all.
Ironheart is currently in pre-production and is probably expected after a couple of other Disney+ Marvel shows see the day of light. The shows in line before Ironheart include Ms. Marvel, Hawkeye, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set for a theatrical release on July 8, 2022.
About Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is an upcoming American superhero film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It will serve as the sequel to Black Panther (2018) and will be the 30th film in the MCU. The film is being written and directed by Ryan Coogler.
Wakanda grieves the loss of their King T’Challa as the nation deals with opening up their technology to the world. But apart from the diplomatic agencies’ onslaught, Wakanda must face yet another danger as the king of Talcon, an underwater nation like DC’s Atlantis, Namor, has declared war on Wakanda.
Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, and Angela Bassett will star in the film, which will premiere on November 11, 2022.
