Onset video for the Black Panther sequel has been leaked online, and it gives away a major plot point. But it’s one that fans probably saw coming.
The 30th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, began filming earlier this month.
The video was posted on Instagram by @coolfreetv and has since been deleted, but not before it was reposted several times.
The video clip and rest of the post contain potential spoilers for the film’s storyline.
The video looks like it was shot on an interior soundstage. The location tag mentioned Tyler Perry Studios, a production studio in Atlanta, Georgia. It shows a Wakanda set, with Black Panther statues, gold pillars and tapestries, and five columns engraved with Wakandan text.
@CreamOrScream on Twitter managed to translate the columns, and it’s a potential spoiler about where King T’Challa’s story is headed.
After Chadwick Boseman’s sad demise last year, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will pay homage to Boseman and his character, T’Challa.
According to the translation, it looks like the film will show T’Challa’s death, although the cause remains unknown. This means Shuri could take over as Wakanda’s leader for future MCU projects.
The first film’s director Ryan Coogler is returning for the sequel and is aware that he must make it memorable for Boseman’s Legacy.
Lupita Nyong’o talked to Yahoo! in a recent interview about Boseman’s passing and how it felt to return for the sequel without him.
People will ask me, ‘Are you excited to go back?’ Excitement isn’t the word. I feel like I’m in a very pensive and meditative state when it comes to Black Panther 2. His passing is still extremely raw for me. And I can’t even begin to imagine what it will be like to step on set and not have him there.
But at the same time, we have a leader in Ryan, who feels very much like we do, who feels the loss in a very, very real way as well.
And his idea, the way which he has reshaped the second movie, is so respectful of the loss we’ve all experienced as a cast and as a world. So it feels spiritually and emotionally correct to do this.
And hopefully, what I do look forward to, is getting back together and honoring what he started with us, and holding his light through it. Because he left us a lot of light that we’re still going to be bathing in. I know that for sure.

Boseman had already recorded his lines for Marvel’s new animated series What If…? before his passing. Therefore, the series can be considered his last portrayal of the character with the sequel film intending to give him a proper goodbye.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will have its theatrical release on July 8, 2022.
