2022’s last MCU project, premiering on November 11, has already pulled in fans with an emotional trailer and has now added another big name to their cast list. UFC champion and MMA fighter Kamaru Usman have been added to the cast of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and will star in the sequel in an undisclosed role.
The 2018 film, directed by Ryan Coogler, made history at the Oscars since it was the first superhero film nominated for Best Picture and received six other nominations. The sequel has been stalling its release as they had to figure out the plot while keeping in mind Chadwick Boseman’s tragic passing away and honoring T’Challa and Boseman’s legacy.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be the last project in the MCU Phase Four and will pave the way for Phase Five. Who knows, maybe Phase Five will begin with Letitia Wright’s Shuri donning the mantle of the Black Panther.
The film’s plot has not been explored in detail, but at Marvel’s panel at Comic-Con 2022, the trailer for the film was released. New additions to the cast have been made, with Tenoch Huerta starring as Namor, Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams/Ironheart also making her debut in the MCU, and Michaela Coel joining the cast as Dora Milaje warrior Aneka.
And now, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has added another star to its cast list. According to MMAFighting’s announcement, mixed martial artist Kamaru Usman will be starring in the upcoming film in an undisclosed role. The news was confirmed by Usman’s manager following the announcement.
Usman has longed to join Hollywood and star on the big screen and has even previously shared fanart of himself posing as a Black Panther superhero. Theories have already started to surface surrounding Usman’s role, and fans have pegged him to be playing a warrior in the Wakandan army alongside Letitia Wright’s Shuri.
We don’t know if Usman is being cast for a one-time cameo, or if Marvel has plans to put him in a role that will have a bigger arc in future MCU projects.
