Black Adam has been Dwayne Johnson’s passion project for about a decade now, so there was no way The Rock would miss the film’s new trailer reveal at CinemaCon.
Johnson made a surprise appearance at Warner Bros’ panel on Tuesday to promote his two upcoming DC projects, Black Adam and DC League of Super-Pets.
At first, Johnson pretended to have made his appearance with a pre-recorded video message. After talking on the screen, the actor stated, “Something doesn’t feel right,” only to walk out onto the stage.
After the Super-Pets trailer, the much-anticipated Black Adam trailer was revealed. The DCEU film’s other cast members, Noah Centineo and Quintessa Swindell were also present during the panel presentation.
Johnson talked a bit about the film, describing his character, the anti-hero and nemesis of the Marvel family, as the Dirty Harry of the superhero universe.
In the trailer, Black Adam makes it clear he’s here to change the way the audience perceives superheroes.
Pierce Brosnan’s Doctor Fate appears in the trailer, asking the anti-hero to choose between either being a savior or a destroyer, “Black Adam, what are the powers that have been given to you? Loving but heartache?”
Black Adam replies, “There’s black, there’s white, and there’s a little bit of grey.”
The action sequences show Johnson’s character unharmed amidst the raging of machine-gun fire while he destroys helicopters and even catches a rocket at one point.
Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman tells him, “There are heroes and villains; heroes don’t kill people.” To which Black Adam has a simple reply, “Well, I do.”
Here to truly change the hierarchy of power as promised, Black Adam states, “I was a slave until I died. Then I was reborn a god. I kneel before no one.”
Black Adam is currently set for a theatrical release on October 21, 2022.
