Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam release date has been set back. The actor, who has been attempting since 2008 to get a movie made on the DC Comics antihero character, finally secured the role in 2014. But, with the delay in its release, it seems that the wait is going to get longer.
Taking to his Instagram, Johnson announced that Black Adam would be coming out on July 29, 2022. He followed it up with a video of the movie’s promotions going up on buildings in Times Square.
The news comes as a disappointment to many, as the film was previously scheduled for release in December 2021. Fans have been awaiting Johnson’s entry into the franchise, and his appearance was even teased for 2019’s Shazam!, but that never happened.
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, the movie has faced many setbacks on its way to production. It made significant progress last year with the addition of other cast members. However, the coronavirus pandemic put another block on the road for the upcoming project.
But with the situation getting better, Black Adam is back on track again. Last week, the movie’s lineup for the Justice Society of America was completed with the inclusion of Pierce Brosnan, who will play Dr. Fate.
He is joined by Noah Centineo (Atom Smasher), Aldis Hodge (Hawkman), Sarah Shahi (Isis), and Quintessa Swindell (Cyclone). Also included is Marwan Kenzari, whose role remains undisclosed.
Furthermore, back in February, Johnson gave a little peek of the Black Adam script in a video posted to promote his Project Rock line. Earlier yesterday, Johnson revealed on social media he had a special announcement regarding Black Adam, to fans’ excitement and anticipation. He followed it up later with the release date post.
The actor has been dropping little teases like these for a while now and also revealed (in a similar fashion) that production would begin sometime in spring-summer this year. In line with that schedule, it makes sense that the film won’t release until next year.
But here’s hoping that the much-awaited blockbuster sticks to the date!
