A new photo from the sets of the upcoming movie, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley, reveals that John Ashton’s Taggart and Judge Reinhold’s Rosewood are back in action for the film.
In the first installment of the Beverly Hills Cop franchise, Eddie Murphy’s Detective Axel Foley had run-ins with Taggart and Rosewood, while investigating the murder of his childhood friend. The two were initially tasked to keep Axel Foley from investigating the case but later ended up helping him.
In the subsequent films, Taggart and Rosewood became friends with Axel and helped him in other investigations, including the attempted murder of their Captain, Andrew Bogomil. Plot details of the upcoming installment of the franchise are being kept under wraps as of now, but Eddie Murphy will be seen reprising his role as Axel Foley in the action-comedy.
The cast also features Paul Reiser, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Taylour Paige. Production on Beverly Hills Cop 4 began earlier this month, and now there’s another exciting update for fans of the franchise.
Twitter user, David Stokes recently shared a new photo from the sets of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley. The image featured John Ashton as Taggart and Judge Reinhold as Rosewood, which confirms that the celebrated duo will be returning in the upcoming film.
They will be joining Eddie Murphy and Paul Reiser as their original characters. Check out the Twitter post below.
Rosewood and Taggart’s return is sure to come as an exciting update, considering their significance and importance in the earlier films. Although Reinhold appeared in all three installments of the Beverly Hills Cop franchise previously, Ashton was not seen in Beverly Hills Cop III due to delays in its development.
Ashton’s part in the film was rewritten for Héctor Elizondo’s Jon Flint. To explain his unexpected absence, it was mentioned in the movie that Ashton’s character, Taggart, had retired and moved to Phoenix.
Ronny Cox, who played Bogomil in the first two films of the franchise, turned down the offer to star in the third installment, due to script issues and a scheduling conflict. Now that Taggart and Rosewood’s return in Beverly Hills Cop 4 is confirmed, it will be interesting to see if Cox will also return for an appearance. If not, the film might have to explain his absence more clearly, unlike Beverly Hills Cop III.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley will release on Netflix in 2023. No official release date has been announced as of now. However, the original Beverly Hills Cop trilogy is now available for streaming on Paramount+.
