According to star Rhea Seehorn, the recently-aired Better Call Saul finale had an alternate different ending shot for Kim Wexler and Jimmy McGill.
The much-loved Breaking Bad spin-off series premiered in 2015 and followed the story of Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) as he dives into the criminal world, spiraling into the sleazy criminal lawyer, Saul Goodman.
Kim Wexler is one of the most important characters in the series, who played a significant role in Jimmy’s transformation. She was Jimmy’s close confidante and eventual wife. In the finale, Jimmy and Kim’s love story met a tragic end.
In the recently-aired finale, Jimmy is arrested by the police. At first, he used his signature tactics to negotiate a plea deal, which allowed him to serve only 7 years in prison, despite having committed a plethora of crimes.
However, Jimmy changes his mind for the better and confesses to his crimes in court in Kim’s presence. As a result, Jimmy receives an 86-year sentence. In one last emotionally charged scene, Kim visits Jimmy in prison. Jimmy fires off the finger gun gesture for one last time.
In a conversation with EW, Rhea Seehorn revealed that the cast filmed a couple of different final scenes for the series finale. In one of the alternate endings, as Seehorn describes, Kim shoots the finger gun back at Jimmy. Check out Seehorn’s statement below-
Well, we shot a couple of different iterations – including ones where she shoots finger guns back at him. It was very small and not animated or with a smile, but still – in the end, [co-creator Peter Gould] decided that it looked too much like they were saying, ‘Kim is back in the game,’ and we really didn’t want to give that impression.

If Better Call Saul would have gone forward with the alternate ending instead, it would have brought things to a full circle in a better way. The finger gun gesture carries great significance between the two. The gesture was first fired by Jimmy in the season 4 finale when he revealed to Kim that he would be practicing criminal law under the alias Saul Goodman.
It was also imitated by Kim herself in the season 5 finale, indicating that she was serious about scamming Howard. Nevertheless, the original ending that was aired also gave a fitting tribute to the deep emotional connection that Jimmy and Kim shared.
You can watch Better Call Saul on Netflix.
