Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk hopes his character will have a happy ending by the end of the show. The series, which is about to go into its final season, will soon end the series, which has been running since 2015.
The show, which is a prequel to the hit crime drama Breaking Bad, follows former conman Jimmy McGill’s conversion to being respectable lawyer Saul Goodman. Further featuring Jonathan Banks, who plays Mike Ehrmantraut, the show also sees his moral decline from being a police officer to a member of the drug cartel.
Following the success of Breaking Bad, the prequel series was launched to shine a light on Saul’s character. However, people who are familiar with the sequel know what kind of endings certain characters get. Saul, who helps Walter and Jesse with their illegal undertakings, might not get the ending he hopes for.
In a recent interview with Collider, Odenkirk professed his hopes that his character would get a happy ending. Odenkirk, who spoke with Steven Weintraub, was asked whether he’s aware of Saul’s future in the final season. Responding to the question, the actor said he has made his opinions over Saul ending in a good place clearly in a discussion with the showrunners but doesn’t know whether it’d be followed through.
As it’s been more than a decade since Odenkirk’s debut in the franchise, it makes sense that the actor would want to bid farewell to his character at a good place. Even though many have argued about Saul’s ending in Breaking Bad, it must be kept in mind that he plays a much different character in the prequel. Nonetheless, if the flashforwards from every season’s opening are a hint, then it’d suggest that Saul seems to be going back to his depressed self.
Irrespective of all this, Jimmy’s hypothetical happy ending could come at the cost of many hardships and struggles. Based on this, Odenkirk’s hopes might be short-lived. But there’s always a shining light at the end of the tunnel…
