Debuting in Breaking Bad as Jimmy McGill, Bob Odenkirk scored his own spinoff in 2015, Better Call Saul, which ended in August 2022 on AMC, and the actor finally said goodbye to a role he’s played for almost a decade. Parting with a character you’ve played for so long is hard, but you’ll never guess what was the hardest part about saying goodbye to Saul Goodman.
In a recent interview with Collider about his upcoming comedy-drama Lucky Hank, the Better Call Saul star explained that it was parting with the phenomenal cast which he found most difficult to do when leaving the show behind. You can read his full answer below:
No, the most impactful thing was saying goodbye to the cast. The thing that hurts my heart is having the camaraderie and the love and friendship with Rhea Seehorn and Patrick Fabian and Michael Mando and John Banks and Giancarlo Esposito be in my past.
Bob Odenkirk
That was the hardest thing about moving on from that show. Nothing comes close to that. The character was an incredible gift to me, career-wise and challenge-wise, but being inside that guy, who was lonely and had fairly immature behavior, was hard after a while. I’m fine with walking away from that.
Bob Odenkirk
Odenkirk previously mentioned in an interview with Empire that Saul Goodman was the role of his lifetime and that he’ll be wallowing over the character for the rest of his life.
I wanted more time to wallow, and I’m going to wallow for the next ten years or more. I know that was probably the role of my lifetime, and that’s a wonderful thing to have had. Some people don’t get that. I will be wallowing for the rest of my life.

Though leaving a cast and character after eight years is hard, Odenkirk is doing a fine job at moving on. He’s booked the lead role in AMC’s upcoming Lucky Hank, a comedy-drama based on Richard Russo’s 1997 novel Straight Man.
There’s no news regarding any further spinoffs of Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul, and the other cast members have also filled their schedules with new projects. Netflix will soon have the final season available for streaming for US and Canadian viewers. Are you excited? Let us know in the comments!
