The upcoming time-twisting shooter Deathloop is going to remain a PS5 exclusive, even though Microsoft has acquired Bethesda, according to a spokesperson linked to Bethesda.
The takeover went through this week after Microsoft had revealed its intention of purchasing ZeniMax media and publisher Bethesda for $7.5 billion last September. While there were some obstacles during the acquisition, the European Commission approved of it on Monday, making Microsoft the parent company of one the of the largest publishers in the gaming industry.
We can expect to see multiple Bethesda titles to hit Game Pass soon, but Arkane Studios (also under ZeniMax) is going to honour its exclusivity deal with Sony.
In a statement, the studio stated that recent events have not affected the development of the latest shooter title, and that there are no plans to have it run on any other console but a PS5. The statement reads as “The acquisition hasn’t affected day-to-day development of Deathloop, which we’re developing exclusively for PlayStation 5 on console and also PC.”
On the other hand, Xbox head Phil Spencer has confirmed that some of Bethesda’s games currently in development will be exclusive to the Xbox and PC. He did not divulge any further details such as the kind of games we can expect to be exclusives. He stated that games going to other platforms shall be on a case-by-case basis.
Deathloop, as well as Tango Gameworks’ Ghostwire: Tokyo will proceed according to plan as PS5 exclusives. Deathloop is one of the most anticipated games of 2021 and is scheduled to release on May 21st.
The title is currently up for pre-order, which means you could get some exclusive digital content. So, if you’re planning on getting Deathloop, make sure you pre-order soon to get the most content from the game.
About Deathloop
Deathloop is an upcoming first-person action-adventure game developed by Arkane Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks.
The game revolves around Colt, an assassin that is stuck in a time loop and is given eight targets to finish off before midnight. However, should he die, he’ll restart the loop, retaining the memories of his previous loop. Not to mention, he also is a target of Julianna, who is tasked with protecting the time loop and stopping Colt.
Deathloop will be released on Windows and PlayStation 5 on May 21st, 2021, with the latter platform having a timed console-exclusivity to the game.
