In Rocket League, there’s not a more gratifying feeling than to see your ride to land the ball within the goalpost. If you’re going to do that, though, why not grab a Goal Explosion and do it with style? It’s a great way of asserting your dominance on the playfield, after all.
That said, there are some Goal Explosions in Rocket League that are way more difficult to get than others, which exactly is what we’re going to talk about today.
That’s right, let’s have a look at the rarest goal explosions from the not-too-rare to the rarest of them all.
10 Grand Slam
Status – No longer available
So, Grand Slam is by no means a rare explosion if we follow the game’s grading system. But, here’s the thing about this explosion – it was only available in the shop for one day, 20th October 2020.
It isn’t the most impressive-looking explosion by any means either but considering how you couldn’t trade this explosion – it has attained somewhat of a mythical status within the community. Those who get to witness the Grand Slam are definitely blessed.
9 Paper Dragon
Status – Special drop from the Lucky Lanterns 2020 event
So, there are two explosions in Rocket League that represent a flying dragon, and this one is the less-rarer of the two. But, that does not mean that it’s not a good goal explosion.
In fact, the Paper Dragon is one of the most visually appealing goal explosions that a player could get in Rocket League. Just as Grand Slam, though, it was only available for a limited time back from 20th January to 17th February, priced at 2000 credits.
Now, whether or not it’ll return one day is up for debate. But for now, it’s another rare sight on Rocket League’s playfield.
8 Tournament Reward Explosions
Status – Obtainable through Tournaments (Current Season only)
Since it started going as a free-to-play title, Psyonix has regularly held tournaments in Rocket League that fetch you tournament tokens. These tokens can get you all sorts of free badass items in the game.
These items, however, can be traded on a 5:1 basis, meaning that for every five items of a particular rarity, you get 1 item of a higher rarity in return.
Anyway, from what I could tell, the explosions from the last tournament would never return to the game, which is why they made the cut for this list. That said, make sure to grab the current tournament’s items – who knows, they might become somewhat of a rarity in the future too.
7 Tactical Nuke
Status – Twitch Prime Pack 4
Man, talk about loud, obnoxious, and absolutely toxic. Imagine having a big loud explosion whenever your opponent lands a goal – fun times.
Either way, though, you can get this explosion with your fourth Twitch Prime Pack (at day 83)- this means that it is actually the most accessible Goal Explosion on this list.
The only real reason it’s rare is because of the efforts you need to put in to get it. After all, grabbing the fourth Twitch Prime Pack will take you almost three months. Hey, it’s as toxic as goal explosions in Rocket League get, though, so it’s a well-earned item.
6 The Bat
Status – Unavailable (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice DLC pack)
The Bat was a Goal Explosion available as part of the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice DLC pack 8th March 2016. The only problem with this beautiful Batman reference (and why it ranks lower than its counterpart explosion) is that you can only use this Goal Explosion with the Batmobile.
The DLC is no longer available, though, meaning that you can no longer get this Goal Explosion. It’s become pretty old too – so, while it may have become rare in this game, it hasn’t aged that well, unfortunately.
5 T-Rex
Status – Unavailable (Jurassic World DLC pack)
What separates the T-Rex from the Bat is how it is actually a universal Goal Explosion, meaning that you can use it with any ride in the game.
When compared to the Bat, the T-Rex has aged a whole lot better due to the universal thing I mentioned just now. Couple that with the fact that the DLC is no longer available for purchase, and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a rare Goal Explosion.
Also, let’s be real for a second here – who wouldn’t want a giant golden T-Rex popping out of the goalpost the moment you land the ball in it?
4 Seasonal Reward – Goal Explosion
Status – Changes Every Season
The best thing about the Goal Explosions that you receive as Season Rewards is how you cannot trade them, you cannot purchase them, and you have to earn them through sheer skill and hard work.
These reasons are where their exclusivity and rarity come from – because these explosions just cannot be earned the easy way and change with each new rank you reach in one competitive season.
You know you’re a good player and can easily show it off when you’ve got one of these seasonal explosions from the highest possible rank (Grand Champion).
3 Dueling Dragons
Status – Available in the Item Shop (Blueprints)
The Paper Dragon was by no means a mediocre Goal Explosion – it just got overshadowed by this absolute beauty. Currently standing as the most expensive non-painted item in the game, the Dueling Dragons go anywhere from 3800 – 5800 credits depending on your platform. One can only imagine what they would cost if they also came in painted variations.
That said, though, the Dueling Dragons are arguably the prettiest explosions in the game and have been considered a good investment time and again by most Rocket League players.
You know something is particularly exceptional when its price causes it to be so rare within the game – such is with these twin dragons.
2 Black Reaper
Status – Available in the Item Shop (Blueprints)
The Reaper explosions have always been the epitome of “Cool and badass” within Rocket League, but when its painted variation came out, people went absolutely crazy on them.
The Black Reaper explosion, out of all the Reaper explosions, is the rarest of the bunch and currently one of the most expensive Goal Explosions within Rocket League.
This thing can set you off by $600-800 depending on your platforms, and obtaining this particular color through Blueprints is plain old scary. Yet still, it is not the rarest explosion in the game – that one goes to the next Goal Explosion on our list.
1 Hot Wheels RC Rivals Explosion
Status – Unavailable
The fact that many people are unaware of this Goal Explosion’s existence speaks volumes when it comes to its rarity.
The Hot Wheels RC Rivals Goal Explosions is the rarest Goal Explosion in Rocket League. You could previously obtain them before by purchasing a Hot Wheels RC Rivals pack with a code to unlock it. You cannot buy, trade, or obtain them anymore at all, which is what makes it the rarest of all.
Hot Wheels and Rocket League have always been a match made in heaven, and this explosion was the epitome of it all. Sadly, though, not even the biggest collectors of this game have them – so if you see it on the playfield, consider yourself the luckiest Homo Sapien alive.
