The manga industry and otakus all over the world came to a standstill in May, last year. Kentaro Miura, the author of Berserk, had passed away, and the news spread like wildfire among the manga community.
Naturally, the fate of his masterpiece, Berserk, was undecided, and many fans had even concluded that the manga would never find its ending. After more than a year, I am happy to tell you that Miura-sensei’s childhood friend has stepped up to fill in his shoes.
The Berserk manga will continue its run in issue 13 of Hakuensha’s Young Animal magazine on June 24. The upcoming chapters will be supervised by Kouji Mori, Kentaro Miura’s friend.
Studio Gaga, Miura’s own studio consisting of his assistants and apprentices who have worked on Berserk, will also continue their work.
The serialization will begin with chapter 365, and six chapters for the “Fantasia Arc will be released before entering a new arc.
In Hakuensha’s announcement, it has been detailed that Miura discussed Berserk’s finale with Koiji Mori. In his statement, Mori pointed out that he knows berserk’s plot details up to the very end.
Studio Gaga offered Mori to help continue the story, which he gladly accepted. Although he isn’t sure that the story will be perfect, he plans to include every detail known to him. Mori and the editing department of the Young Animal magazine have stated that they will not deviate from Miura ensei’s own words.
I am glad that the studio has accepted it will be impossible to depict everything Miura-sensei had planned and has nonetheless vowed to finish Berserk for fans.
Since only Mori knows the ending to Berserk, a great responsibility falls on him. It was undoubtedly brave to step up, and I hope Studio Gaga and Mori can flesh out the much-awaited ending.
