Many people had fallen in love with Paru Itagaki’s Beastars but were sad to see it end last year.
There was no announcement regarding any spin-offs, sequels, or any new works by the author for quite some time, and we finally have something now.
Beastars has gained somewhat of a cult following in the west, especially after the release of the anime.
Although season two of the anime did not do as well in the shadow of Attack on Titan Season 4, the manga still reached huge numbers even after its end.
After a series ends, fans start to crave something similar in order to experience those feelings once again.
Beastars Mangaka Paru Itagaki will release a new manga series titled Sanda in Weekly Shounen Champion Issue 34, which will be released later this July.
Unlike her previous work, the story has human characters and is set in the near future about kids and adults in a world where the birth rate has declined rapidly.
It seems like the author has taken it upon herself to write a story about Japan’s birth rate problem. This would not be anything unexpected as she has addressed other social issues with her works in the past.
Beastars reports on the problems that accompany a diverse society under the cover of anthropomorphic animals. Sprinkled with forbidden love among seemingly incompatible beings.
Japan’s steadily decreasing birthrate issue is somewhat ignored by the conservative locals of the country. It is an obviously big problem outside looking in; it’s great to see someone on the inside addressing it.
With all that, the new series will probably have all the great elements like complex relationships and strong characters we have expected from the author.
If you like Beastars like many, this one should be a no-brainer.
