Stream your Favorite UK Content as BBC iPlayer App is now on PS5

While the PlayStation 5 is undoubtedly a powerful gaming console, it is also a media hub for many users. With the ability to download your favorite streaming service app, you can access all your content from one space. 

But this depends on whether your particular service’s app is available for download on the PlayStation system. Thankfully, those who enjoy the content on BBC can now finally get the iPlayer app on their console. 

The app is available on over fifteen thousand devices, including the rival’s Xbox Series X, so it was pretty surprising that there wasn’t a PlayStation version. It is only today, over a year since the console’s launch, that the broadcasting company has launched the PS5 app. Those with access to the app will be able to enjoy shows such as Fleabag, Doctor Who, and EastEnders on their consoles. 

The Head of Product at iPlayer, Neil Hall, released a statement today on the launch of the app. 

We’re always working to make iPlayer available across as many platforms as we can, and we’re delighted to add the PS5 to the 15,000+ devices where BBC iPlayer is already available.

To download the app onto your console, you will need to head to the PlayStation Store. There, go to the Media tab to find the app. You can also search it manually using the PlayStation Store search, and the app will be added to your home screen once downloaded. Keep in mind, an account with the service is required to access the content. 

The BBC iPlayer is the latest of a slew of streaming apps hopping onto the console bandwagon. HBO Max launched its app for the PS5 at the end of last year, joining the ranks of Netflix, Crunchyroll, Apple TV, YouTube, Spotify, and many more.
