It seems like it’s Throwback Thursday, not just for us but for Battlefield 2042 as well.
According to a promising new leak, the futuristic next installment in the popular FPS franchise will have a sandbox mode that will include many of Battlefield’s most iconic maps.
This mode will join the two modes outlined during the game’s reveal at E3 2021. At the moment, it sits redacted from Battlefield 2042’s website.
The leak comes from Tom Henderson, a well-known Battlefield leaker, who incidentally, also correctly leaked the new game’s title before it was officially revealed. Additionally, Henderson has been a significant part of the Battlefield rumor mill by providing information consistently.
Henderson broke the mode down in a video on his YouTube channel. In the video, he said that the mode will be titled BattlefieldHub and contain remasters of old Battlefield maps on the new Battlefield 2042 engine. He also outlined that movement mechanics will be the same but will just be with older weapons and vehicles.
So, you can expect BattlefieldHub to bring the 2042 combat experience to old Battlefield maps, which you will be able to experience with up to 64-player setups. Certain maps and new-gen consoles could even hold up to 128 players.
But most importantly, according to Henderson, there will be no class system in this mode, and it will be a ‘fun’ sandbox game mode.
“The Battlefield Hub is going to be the ultimate sandbox experience and will be the “fun” game mode. The reason my source has described it as a fun game mode is because they say that this isn’t necessarily going to be a competitive experience or a balanced experience.
Instead, this is going to be the ultimate sandbox experience when players are just going to be able to have fun — a Battlefield 1 tank vs. a Battlefield 3 tank.”

Of course, EA Dice has shared no confirmation or info on this nostalgic mode, except for the one redacted bit that, as we previously mentioned, is on the new game’s website.
However, we know that developers will focus on multiplayer instead of single-player experiences.
Battlefield 2042 arrives on October 22 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
