K-Animation, also known as Korean Animation, is a rapidly growing industry that has been gaining popularity around the world. Korean animation studios have produced a wide range of content, from children’s shows to adult dramas and everything in between.
Bastions is a new anime series that is causing a stir with its unique combination of K-pop and K-animation. The show’s soundtrack features popular bands such as BTS and Le Sserafim and centers around a group of heroes determined to save the planet.
Let’s dive deep into the world of Bastions and explore its story, characters, and themes. I’ll also break down the trailer, analyzing key moments and hints about what we can expect from the series.
And, of course, I’ll give you all the details on the release schedule, so you can mark your calendars and get ready to experience the excitement of Bastions.
1. Bastions Anime Release Date
If you’re eager to watch Bastions, you’ll have to head over to Crunchyroll because it’s the only platform that will be streaming the anime series.
Bastions anime was released on Crunchyroll on May 13th at 8:45 am Pacific Time. This 3D Korean animation series will follow the typical weekly template, with five episodes in total.
The show will be available to stream worldwide, excluding a few countries like China, Japan, North and South Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan.
2. What is Bastions anime about?
Thymos Media, the production company of Bastions, stated that collaborating with K-pop artists would help raise global awareness of environmental issues.
They want to touch on the theme of the environment to exert a positive influence on people.
Bastions follows a group of rookie superheroes competing for popularity in a world where superpowers are the norm. But things get serious when they have to save Earth from an environmental crisis caused by villains polluting the planet.
What’s even more exciting is that BTS is coming back with new music for the series! As you may know, the group has been on hiatus to complete their military service, so this collaboration was a pleasant surprise.
It’s the first project from BTS since they released their anthology album ‘Proof’ in June 2022. But it’s not just BTS who’s providing music for the show. Le Sserafim, Brave Girls, Heize, AleXa, Seo J, Kang Min-seo, and P. Cassady are also rolling out new tracks for Bastions.
3. Analyzing the Bastions Anime Trailer: What to Expect
I was surprised that not many BTS fans care about the anime, and I can totally see why after watching the trailer.
I. Story –
The trailer shows that the Bastions anime is a super collaboration of idols and heroes, K-pop, and K-animation.
The three main characters are part of a group of heroes called the “Bastions,” which is ranked number one on the hero chart. They have superpowers and work together to protect society from a corrupt corporation called Wash Green.
The Bastions anime trailer hints at some of the challenges and conflicts the heroes face, like evil villains and monsters. It also shows scenes of the heroes using their powers, like flying and lifting up a car with super strength.
There’s even a competition among heroes with weekly winners. The playful personalities of the main characters are on full display in the ending scene with their banter.
On paper, the story seems good enough, but I implore you to check the trailer out for yourself for a first-hand experience.
II. Animation –
Now let’s talk about the animation or lack thereof. The songs are good, but the animation quality doesn’t live up to the hype of the OSTs.
The art style kind of reminds me of Miraculous Ladybug, which is also animated by a Korean studio. I get the feeling they’re going for the same demographic, and I am for sure not the target audience here.
It feels like they spent all their cash on hiring BTS and left only chump change for the actual anime. The animation in the music video for the BTS song “The Planet” was even worse than the trailer.
The characters in Bastions look like they’re made out of cardboard, with zero facial expressions and stiff movements. I’ve seen amateurs make MMDs that are better, and the janky hair physics was getting on my nerves throughout.
Many fans are comparing the animation with BT21 and other indie animations, and Bastions takes the L every time. Overall, it seems like a fun cartoon for 5-year-olds.
